Boeing must be thanking their lucky stars this didn’t happen at 38,000 ft. The continuing quality control issues at Boeing must be making the execs at Airbus more than a little happy right now.

My wife and I are taking a (VERY) log overdue honeymoon starting 10/31. Our plans were to go to Thailand and then spend three days in South Korea on the way home. I have a USA passport and my wife has a Philippine passport and USA green card. Unfortunately for me, my wife told me that she didn't need a Visa to Korea. (She claims she did, but whatever). So I decided to check and yes, she does. Here is the issue: The Korean embassy is in Atlanta. Assuming I mail all the documents to them, it takes 14 days to process and then they mail back. (USPS mail). I asked them if I fly to Atlanta does it help? They said they still need 14 days and will mail it back. I'm not even sure I'd have her passport back by the time we leave, and if not, the whole trip is dead. I emailed the Korean embassy in Bangkok, but they told me that I would have to live in Thailand for 2 years before they could help us. Would you all take the chance? If I don't get the Korean embassy, we have an issue coming home. BUT: we at least get the Thailand portion of the trip. If I mail it, I *might* get it back on time? (It's already the 11th!) Wife REALLY wants to go and she's accusing me of sabotaging the Korean portion of the trip. Am I overthinking this? I tend not to trust the USPS or government agencies in general with time-sensitive items. (We only booked this trip two weeks ago ...) Thanks in advance.

Hello, We just got our IR-1 visa approved on December 12th, 2023!! We are now waiting for the visa to arrive and plan on booking the flight ticket once it arrives. I was wondering when booking flight tickets if I need to book a one-way ticket for my spouse or if it is okay to book a round-trip ticket and then cancel the return flight upon arrival to the US? I am asking because the one-way tickets seem to be way more expensive (twice as much) than round-trip tickets. Has anyone else booked their flight to the US this way?

Hey everyone, I have a quick question. My Visa got approved and will be returned to me via courier (UPS) within the next 7-10 business days and I was wondering if you get like an email on when they will deliver it or if they just gonna show up at your door? With now just 2 weeks away from Christmas and 3 weeks away from moving I'm more out than I'm at home, trying to get everything done.

Hi there, We accidentally wrongly filed an i90 instead of a i751 and are now filing the i751 6 months late with cover letter explaining the mistake. We had planned to travel outside of the country but now are concerned with the possibility of not having the receipt from i751 when reentering the country in 6 weeks. The i90 receipt does say that the green card extends for 2 years, but this was obviously not the correct form to file and will be rejected eventually. Does anyone know if my wife would be kept from entering the country if we did not yet have the i751 receipt? Thanks so much! -
We are an engaged Canadian and American who want to get married, obtain a spousal visa, and live together in the USA. We have a lot of flexibility in our lives for travel and want to be together as much as possible during the 1.5 to 2yr visa process. We are considering the following timeline and would greatly appreciate any advice about possible issues, hurdles, and/or other considerations. We get married in Fall 2023 in Canada, spouse then enters USA on tourist visa (as a tourist) for 6 months. Spouse stays at National's owned-home in those months and returns to Canada in early spring 2024. At which point National files for spousal visa and leaves for Canada for the summer, and Europe for the fall - winter- spring while the visa process runs its course. Spouse returns to Canada for visa interview at Consulate in Canada when requested Any experiences with: filing for spousal visa 6-7 months after marriage in Canada? is that enough of a marriage duration? National leaving the US during visa process? Spouse coming in to the US on a tourist visa while married to a national? Spouse coming in to the US on a tourist visa while visa process is in its final stages? Thanks and we appreciate any feedback and insight! -
Hi all just some quick questions - I'm planning to visit the UK next month and moved to the US on a K1 visa about 4 years ago. When I got married I didn't change my name on my UK passport (it's still in my maiden name) but otherwise all my ID's / Bank cards use my married name. I understand if I book under maiden name then it will not be an issue with the airline. Will I still be ok to travel on my own? Also I'm in the middle of removing conditions from my Permanent resident status right now and my GC has expired, I have a copy of the letter proving I have the extension on me along with ID but will I need my marriage certificate just in case someone asks why I have a different last name on my UK passport? Has anyone had positive/negative experiences travelling like this? -
Hi! I have a green card since 2019. I quit my US job in January 2021 and spent the last two years traveling around Mexico and Spain. I did not work at all during those to years, I don't have any foreign income, my only income comes from investments I have in the US (stocks and index funds) and I have payed all my taxes in the US since I left. I have no girlfriend or kids, and my money and bank accounts are all in the US. Since I did not give them any notice about my extended travel, and since I left my apartment in the US (i'm not renting any place at the moment there), will the Customs Agents revoke my green card when I re-entry the US because of the extended 2+ year travel? on the other hand, could it have been already revoked? or they need me to re-entry to verify my situation first? hello all, i was just seeking some advice or experience from others who have been in this situation. my fiancé and i are gay and they currently live in a country that is homophobic. i have a trip in march scheduled to visit for two weeks. i can just say i’m visiting a friend when going through customs and staying at their place. however, we are planning for me to stay there for 3 months end of this year, trying to wait out some of this long waiting approval process since their country is apart of the esta program, but i’m nervous about them denying such a long visit since it’s not usual to visit “a friend” for so long. im hoping that there is someone out there who can share some experience or advice about traveling to visit your fiancé while they live in a homophobic country. -
Hello everyone so I’ve been a GC holder for over 15 years and travel many times a year for vacation (typically 1 to two weeks each time) and spending around 40 days outside the US per year. I am a remote worker and can work anywhere. That said I am looking to purchase a vacation property in Cancun and would like to enjoy time working there. I’m aware of the 6 month/180 day guidelines and over 1 year that being out that long could trigger inspection. Question is… what if I rotated my time between the US and a Mexico? I spend 1 month in US then 1.5 months in Mexico, then 1.5 months in the US then 1 month in Mexico. The idea is to keep the total days outside the US under 6 months but spend more time in the US during the year. Does anyone see this as being a problem? I have my entire immediate family here in the US. Bank, credit cards, memberships, pay taxes, car loan, and typical responsibilities of living in the US. As an aside, I recently withdrew my n400 app and aware that getting naturalized removes this issue. thank you!

Hi everybody I need some help, my wife(I am a US Citizen) came to the US on a esta, we got married in march and the immigration lawyer filed I-130 I-765 I-485 on the 18 of April when do you expect the work permit to come? and even more importantly when will she be able to travel outside the USA? She did biometrics and July and she just did her immigration physical(dont know if it makes a difference) Than you so much for your time! -
My wife and I were planning to go overseas for the holidays this year. We had to cancel the trip yesterday while we were at the airport because she had left her green card at home and we could not check her in for her flight. (She still has a Singapore passport and isn’t going to pursue U.S. citizenship.) Although we initially had the airline reschedule the trip to today, we ended up canceling the trip. Her green card has an expiration date of over a year ago (September 2021). The I-751 NOA, which we received in July 2021, says her conditional permanent residency is extended for 18 months from the date which is on the card (not the date which is on the NOA, so March 2023). She originally moved to the U.S. in November 2018 under the K-1 visa. Her original EAD/AP combo card expired in 2020. Two employees at the airline check-in, who are immigrants too, told us that the airports in Europe would not allow her to board the flight and she would be stuck in Europe. They also said the airline would be fined $15,000 for letting an “illegal” immigrant back into the U.S. After we found this thread, we were no longer confident that she could travel abroad even with the green card and the original of the NOA. If she is deported, that is a criminal offense which would kick her out of the U.S. and cancel her Australia permanent residency (which she also has). We want to move back to Australia, so a 10-day vacation to Europe is not worth the risk of losing that. So this raises several concerns for us (aside from trying to get a refund on our expensive travel)… USCIS processing times at YSC for I-751 are now 26 months. Our extension was only 18 months, and the USCIS case inquiry said we could not even ask them about the case until October 2023. How can my wife still legally be in the United States and be able to work while we are still waiting for USCIS? Why don’t the extension letters cover this entire lengthy processing time? We filed the correct papers and paid all of the fees… why would she be treated like an illegal immigrant? How do we get an extension that the airlines and customs people will actually, consistently, honor? With the documents we currently have, it’s luck of the draw and we can’t travel abroad without worrying about this. If she had a family emergency and had to go back to Singapore or Australia, how can she do even that travel without running the risk of not being let back in to the U.S.? -
Hey all, I'm about to file my N-400 application but I'm curious to know how other people counted their travel days. The instructions say to count how many days you were outside of the US for over 24 hours -- so, does that mean we don't include "travel days?" (ex. If I took a flight at Noon from New York to Canada, does that "day" count toward my total?) I've made ~10 trips out of the US in the last 5 years, so whether or not I include my travel days will change my total count by 20 days. Thank you! -
Hello, I need to travel abroad while the removal of conditions on my conditional green card is pending (through marriage). Is traveling with my expired green card + Extension letter enough or do I have to get the i551 stamp ? Thanks for your help

Hi fellow applicants, My wife (U.S. citizen) and I (formerly F-1 student) applied for my adjustment of status (plus I-130 and I-765, but no I-131) to permanent residency way back in May 2020 (;_;) and we're still waiting for it to be granted... Timeline is below. Latest update from the USCIS is that our interview is "ready to be scheduled", but that was back in March 2022 with no interview scheduled yet. My sister's getting married abroad in February 2023 - so in March we had thought surely the green card will come by February, but no sign of it yet... We had also reached out to our Congressperson last month for any update on our case, and received a reply yesterday: If the interview is ready to be scheduled since March, but the case is still in Chicago, does this mean they're considering waiving the interview? Otherwise, wouldn't the case be handled in the San Antonio field office (our closest)? So now I'm facing a choice: Wait for the green card and hope I can travel in February (which would be 11 months after "interview ready to be scheduled") File I-131 for travel authorization (at an additional cost of $575 to this already-expensive process) which we may or may not get by February... -
As is the case with everything we do, my wife's trip back to Manila has become an adventure. First: The flight was delayed out of Orlando, and for whatever reason they put her on the next day's flight. Then her overweight bag (Filipinas bring home tons of stuff for the family) flew off to LAX without her. (Where, as far as I can tell, it still sits). The next day her flight was delayed by 5 hours again, causing her to miss her connection with Asiana Airlines. American rebooked her on Philippine air out of SFO. She got to LAX, and shuttled her to SFO. After a 6 hour wait she went to board. Unlike Asiana Airlines, Philippine Airlines wouldn't accept her passport in her maiden name and denied her booking. (Why the Philippine flag carrier wouldn't take one of their own citizens home blows my mind). After I had a yelling match with a really annoying AA call center agent who insisted on talking over me and treating me like an idiot, I got another agent who was very helpful. He rebooked her on Asiana thru Seoul, but it was another 5 hour wait in SFO, and then a 16 hour layover in Inchon. She got to Inchon and all the in-terminal hotels were booked. (She couldn't leave without a Korea visa). All of the showers were closed due to COVID.(A bit insane) She found a nap room and slept a bit. As of an hour ago, she FINALLY boarded her flight to Manila. She's exhausted (as am I). Now I worry about her coming home. Her ticket is in her married name (as is her green card). Her passport is in her maiden name. I'm hoping that's good enough for the USA trip back.

Greetings: My fiancée and I have filed for our K-1 (waiting with NOA2 not until April 2023), and we are wanting to go on vacation in Thailand. Understanding that a CFO letter/stamp is required for her to leave the Philippines even with Thailand being visa free for both of us. Would this CFO stamp be sufficient for the vacation travel AND the K-1 next year, or are they two different stamps/authorizations? I have to admit, this is so confusing for me, but the USCIS introduces enough delays, I don't want any on the other side of the pond... Thank you all! -Kurt

I'd like to go sightseeing in California or New York during my university holiday season this year or next year. I identify as a "gay" student (22) and was wondering if telling the visa officer my true reason for traveling is a good idea. If he/she turns out homophobic, will he/she automatically deny me a B2 tourist visa on the spot? Or do they adhere to some strict moral code that prevents them from discriminating against marginalized people? The areas I mentioned are liberal, diverse, friendly, accepting, and inspiring. For years, I've wanted to visit their gay towns, the Golden Gate Bridge, Hollywood, and the Statue of Liberty. I want to make him/her feel somewhat emotional so that he/she believes I have a valid reason for traveling. Should I remain silent on LGBTQ issues in general? Is it a plus or a minus to reveal my sexual orientation? -
My husband came to America on the k3 spouse visa 3 years ago from Dominican Republic. My husband received his permanent green card a month after he arrived. We plan to travel outside the country back to the DR, since he’s been here. My husband don’t have an American passport, but he has the Dominican passport he arrived to America with. I’m not sure if his Dominican passport will allow him back into America. What does my husband need to travel out the country and back into America besides his I.D. and green card. -
Hello, I was able to get my wife a tourist visa shortly after the war started in Ukraine ( she's Ukrainian) and when we entered the Port of Entry the officer said we had 6 months to figure out her paperwork to adjust her status. Well I spoke with a lawyer who will proofread all our documents but I haven't been able to pay yet and start the process so she can have work permission and travel authorization. My question is, we have been taking trips flying within usa during this time and she uses passport as I.D. , can she still travel within USA on an expired Visa? Does Tsa look into that and call immigrations or can we still fly before we submit paperwork to adjust status??

Hello all! So, I've been wanting to travel to see my Mom in the UK, and I haven't seen her since moving 11/2019. We are very close, so it's hard to not see her all this time. I hold a Green Card (conditional) and it expires in 5/2023. Is it safe to go and visit her? Will I essentially not be allowed back home because I'm not a US citizen? I'm so paranoid that I could potentially throw away everything I've built here so far. I know the Green Card is used for re-entry, but COVID regulations freak me out. If anyone has any leads, I'd really appreciate it - Thanks! -
Does anyone have experience with traveling while on OPT and with approved (but not activated) H1B COS? I want to visit my family during the summer and would try to return on OPT status before Oct. 1st. My lawyers have stated that while this should be possible since all my documents are valid, I could have trouble at the port of entry showing non-immigrant intent even if my H1B is not active. Has anyone successfully done this?

Hi all, I am 29 years old male with a full time job (Technical Engineer for Local Government) in UK London, I have visited the USA twice within the last year (under 2 weeks), the last time I travelled was in mid May 2022 for 10 days and both times I have them I was visiting friends and family, I’m getting a little worried that it is becoming suspicious. I have scheduled another visit last August for 9 days to spend time with her (almost running out of vacation days from work) lol Should I just tell them I am visiting my girlfriend for an X amount of days/weeks? Am I allowed to visit my girlfriend on n ESTA? Does anyone think this will be a problem? I would like to hear some of your past experiences. -
Hey there, My husband (USC) and me (CPR) are planning a 2 week trip to visit family in Germany. From reading previous forum posts, I'm 90% sure that I will be able to travel abroad and come back to the US just fine with only an I-551 passport stamp, but I was hoping someone could give me a piece of mind. 🙄 Backstory: I came here on a K-1 visa; we got married; filed for AOS; received green card. Turns out that our green card had a 10 year validity date, although we were married for less than 2 years at the time we filed for AOS. We sent the green card back to USCIS in June 2021 (filed a free I-90, indicating USCIS error), and since then I don't have a physical green card. We will be filing for ROC this summer and want to go to Germany after we filed. We are planning to travel in September (and be back before October, when my green card would expire - had I received a 2 year green card..). I made an info pass appointment at the local USCIS office back in October 2021, and got an I-551 passport stamp, evidencing permanent residency for 1 year. My understanding is that while my I-90 case is pending, the I-551 stamp in my passport is sufficient to travel internationally and return to the US (as long as I return before October 2022, when the stamp expires and coincidentally also my green card should expire if we get the replacement card in the meantime). Could someone please confirm if this is correct, or if I need any additional documents besides the I-551 stamp + passport to board an airplane and be let back into the US? Do I maybe even need a new I-551 stamp after we filed for ROC, since that happens before we travel? I.e. does filing for ROC change the status of the I-551 passport stamp in any case?
