I think it's important to share your past but even if you don't care to, they will likely ask.  Also realize, she will probably see copies of the paperwork and you have to disclose this on the application.

As an FYI, we had our interview this week, and she was asked about my previous marriage and dates.

You cannot hide it.  And yes, the CO can and will discuss it with the fiancé at her interview.  Also:  dude, really?!

:-)))))) Why wouldn't you tell her??????

Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.

Hi Everyone, I am a newbie and please pardon me if I post this to the wrong forum.

So my question is: do I have to tell my fiancee living oversea about my previous marriage? ( it was divorced legally a year ago ) . I plan to petition her to United States to live with me next year 2020 , I was worry if the interview officer will talk about my previous marriage and then my fiancee will be surprise but the fact is I really want to hide my previous marriage. Does anybody know if I can hide my previous marriage to my new wife ?

Thanks for any advice

Jamie,

Yes you should tell your fiance as it might be brought up during the interview. It is best to know before hand that way he/she isn't surprised.

If they ask about it at the interview and your fiancee doesn't know they would probably deny the visa.

Similar to the beneficiaries that didn't know their partner was a RSO until it came up in this process. I'd imagine that conversation is tougher than the one the OP needs to have.

Omg. My husband knows all about my previous 2 marriages as well as why they ended . I know about his . But he is an old man ( 70) and not good with dates , I am old too  and we have never discussed that dates just our previous marriages .. I can’t believe that dates might be asked and I am sure we will not know . Now so concerned 😟

Thank for sharing that detail.
For the OP - please find the way to tell her ! Don’t hide anything from her ! Not only that it might cost her denial , but it is not good way to start your life together.

They asked my husband "has your wife been married before""? Imagine if he said no when they clearly knew otherwise.
they asked is he Nigerian also? Why did our marriage ended. That was classic because husband got to say because he was a bigamist and a liar. LOL

The interview is not the time to find out details about your future spouse when they should have been told. That's all the way wrong.

It's certainly happened to others. I wouldn't say asking about the personal details is common, but it absolutely has happened.

My interviewer asked (almost in passing) "have either of you been married before?". I told her my wife had, so interviewer asked "Do I have her divorce certificate"? They might not ask specific questions about it, but they'll most probably mention it if only checking that all documents are present.

I can't imagine it would be possible to get through the process without her finding out. It would very bad at the interview if they ask about the divorce certificate and your fiancee says "what divorce?"

Jamie,

You will need to provide a full and final divorce decree at the interview stage. So she will find it out sooner or later....

Judging part:

How u want to build a relationship and drag somebody over half of the world by starting out with lies...

For the beneficiary but typically not for the petitioner is the decree required at interview.

The petitioners decree is in the i129f already

That might depend on the country. They asked for the petitioner's divorce decree in our case.
