Our Story

  1. Crazy thing happened today. My I-824 filed May1, 2023. Transferred to Potomac in June 2023. 4 service requests pending on I-824 none answered. Thursday I called USCIS. I-824 still pending. no information on processing times etc Agent filed another service request I received 3 emails. 2 re old service request stating no info keep waiting basically 1 service request, the new one, email saying the usual….an agent will call Monday-Friday blah blah Friday my I-130 sent to NVC I-824 still pending Saturday Im at work and I get missed call from agent. Course they can’t leave details in message. Then i get text that they tried to call, because didn’t answer, they are closing the service call. Question. Is the I-130 safe and still on its way to NVC? Status still says as such on myuscis account. The phone call was probably about the I-824 because the service request number was the one on the I-824 from Thursday. How does I-130 get sent and they dont have a clue when looking at I-824 ? How in the world did they call on a Saturday? (DELETED)
  2. Hello, I'm a US Citizen and my partner is Indonesian and has a B2 visa valid for five years with multiple entry. She has visited the US three times, and we are both currently in Indonesia. If we were to get married in Indonesia and file form I-130 to apply for a spouse immigrant visa, would it be permitted for her to visit the US on the B2 visa during the time that the I-130 application was being processed? I have heard mixed reports on whether this is permitted or not, and would be grateful for information from this community. Thank you.
  3. My partner (US Citizen) and I (U.K. Citizen) currently living in the U.K. and are unmarried. Our long term goal is to move to the USA; however, we are considering a move to Australia after filing the I-130 document post marriage. The plan is to marry in the U.K. and then move to Australia in August 2025 and stay for one year, leaving August 2026. Can the I-130 be filed in the U.K. in say, March 2025, and the application continued after emigrating to Australia? Additionally, how long can we wait after the I-130 is approved before starting the I-485 petition? The reason for this would be that we want to have a full year in Australia and are trying to determine a rough timeline.
  4. Hello, I filed an i-130 for my mom. I had put some estimated date on my 5-year address history. I am about to file one for my dad. Do the dates in the address history need to match? I certainly don't remember what exactly I put in there. The dates will probably differ by weeks or month.
  5. My parents I-130 was approved in Dec 2023. I was in the process of filing DS-260 for them, but my dad passed away in Feb 2024. I'll have all the paperwork submitted for DS-260 (including Affidavit of Support) shortly. But, I have a few questions for which I am unable to get clarity on. Hoping this community can help provide some guidance on them. 1. My mom has a B1/B2 Visa. Can she come with me to USA on B1/B2 and file for Adjustment of Status in USA eventhough her DS-260 is filed here? If Adjustment of Status can be filed in USA, how long does it take to get approval for the GC? Will doing so jeopardize her DS-260/Green Card application process in any way? 2. Or is it better to wait till she gets her DS260 approved, finish the medical checks, biometrics, Visa interview (location: Mumbai, India) and then come to USA? 3. Do I need to notify NVC/USCIS to stop further processing of my dad's DS-260? If so, how can it be done? One option is I simply don't submit the supporting docs for his DS-260, so the process will not continue on USCIS side. Would that work? 4. Do I need to notify NVC in any way that my dad has passed away for my mom's DS-260, since the DS-260 has this question: "Is your spouse immigrating to the U.S.with you?" and my mom's DS-260 was submitted with a response of "Yes" before my dad passed away? I'm assuming that my mom can simply take the death certificate to the visa interview and update them at that time about my dad's situation. Would that work? 5. For Mumbai, India location, any estimates on how long does the approval take after DS-260, Affidavit of Support and other supporting documents are submitted to NVC? How long does it take to get the biometrics, Via interview appointment and the eventual visa to travel to USA? Thanks for all your help!
  6. Hi, my question is in the title but I will give more context. I'm a British citizen married to a USC and we filed our standalone i-130 in November 2023. When he had to leave the UK after we got married we couldn't stand being apart so we decided that I would move to Tijuana, Mexico and he would cross every day to be with me. He works and will maintain his address in San Diego. I'll be moving to Mexico as a temporary resident by family. (Previously we thought of us each visiting for long periods but that has it's own issues) So that leaves which embassy i'll be doing my American interview through. On the i-130 I put I would be going through the London, UK embassy because that was the plan at the time. But now I will be living in Mexico I just want to be 1000% sure can I still have my interview in London? I have a flexible ticket back so I can easily be there. It's about 1.5 years longer going through either embassy in Mexico compared to the UK. and BONUS QUESTIONS: when I do move to TJ i'm thinking i'll need to let USCIS know. How do I do that? or is it only by the NVC stage i have to submit the documents? We had an extensive amount of evidence up until this point. I've submitted unsolicited evidence before, in this situation should I put through more? It's an odd one for my husband as he will have an address in SD and in TJ and we'll be getting a joint Mexican bank accounts together which was not possible because we lived in separate countries. Great bona fide evidence but is it odd he's living in 2 places at once? Or just he's visiting me or what? It's hard to get my head round. I'm not worried about him having loose ties to the US but should I be? Thank you and hope I put this in the right category although my post has kind of evolved with these extra questions.
  7. Greetings, I (US Citizen, Petitioner) was recently married to my wife (Pakistani Citizen, Beneficiary). I am preparing to file my I-130 to begin the process of her immigration to the US. The marriage occurred in a public ceremony in Pakistan, around a month ago, and was attended by family and friends. My spouse and I had been engaged for just a under a year before that. The engagement occurred in person, when I visited Pakistan in 2023 for around a month. We then decided to marry during my next visit to Pakistan, in 2024. After the marriage, my wife and I went to honeymoon in Dubai for 9 days, after which, I returned to the US. I have the following documents and evidence to attach to my application: Nikah Nama (Islamic marriage contract / certificate), written in Urdu, along with its signed and attested English translation. NADRA marriage certificate, issued by the local union council where the marriage occurred My US Certificate of Naturalization Passport sized photographs of both me and my wife Photographs of various marriage ceremonies and events Passport stamps and boarding passes of my flight to Pakistan to attend the marriage Photographs, boarding passes, hotel reservations and passport stamps for both me and my wife for our honeymoon in Dubai Evidence of frequent communication, throughout the entire time of engagement, and post marriage. Other ancillary evidence, such as receipts of gifts, and money transferred to my wife Is this sufficient evidence to attach at this initial step? I have reviewed the documents and evidence required by USCIS for a spousal I-130 but would like to know if there is something I am missing, or something I need to do differently. Any help or guidance is appreciated.
  8. Hey there everyone, so my husband and I are in the process of filing his I-130 online, and we've run into an issue that's left us pretty stumped. At the end of the application, there is a section called, "review and submit." We have completed every section of the application, however, an error message has come up at the bottom of the screen saying that there are errors in the "Your Beneficiary: Employment Information" section. I have included screenshots below. We have entered the correct address for my husband's place of employment and, unfortunately, the website does not tell me directly where the issue is. I've tried re-typing the address several times (it's an odd address with no street numbers or anything, but that is exactly how it reads on Google Maps), to no avail. It continues to say that there is an error. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. We cannot continue and submit our application until this is corrected, but we do not know how to correct the issue if we don't know what the problem is to begin with. Has anyone else had an experience like this before? What do you suggest we do? We're a bit frustrated at the moment. Thank you in advance.
  9. Another Month has begun and it is time to track all the I-130 fillings for February 2024. Please update the forum on the progress of your petition with USCIS and the NVC. Let us go through this journey together!
  10. Hello, I am still waiting for our approval , pd- Feb, 25 2023 on the i130 for my spouse who lives abroad. I am a US citizen But prepping for the next steps. Question: In the forums I hear that for the i-864 if I upload 3 years of past income tax transcripts, I have a greater chance of approval and no rfe. This is how my income on my tax transcripts look like ~rough estimates to hide details 2020 - 7k~ ( worked out of country) 2021 - 40k+ (Moved to the US, new job, higher salary) 2022 - 100k+ Will this be fine or will they RFE me due to my 2020 tax return way under the poverty line? Might be too much ask for a joint sponsor, I'll have to look at my options and ask around if that is reallllly needed. This is if I were to get the approval in this month for example. I would also submit income statements for the past 12months as additional proofs as well. I have an income of 110k+ from 2023. I will start submitting my taxes End of February, that's when i get all my tax documents from the brokerages, etc. I will probably not be able to get my Tax transcript until March/April/May probably (I'm doing a Paper filing with MFS).
  11. Welcome to another monthly thread for those filling for I-130. We can all we can stay in touch by providing progress on our individual cases as it comes.
  12. Hello Y'all, Just wanted to start a topic for January 2023 filers. Provide your updates here and let's track our progress together
  13. Hi everyone! I hope everyone is doing great! I am filing I-130 for both of my parents. However, I just submitted an online application for the first parent, now I am trying to submit the second application but the page continues to redirect to the case page. So, does this mean I cannot submit the application for both parents from the same account?
  14. Helping spouse petition her brother via I-130. They have to provide evidence of their relationship. Unfortunately, birth certificate has their name *before* they were naturalized. However, spouse changed their name when they were naturalized. And the problem is that the naturalization certificate does *NOT* show the name change. So not clear how to provide evidence
  15. My fiancé (Argentina citizen) and I (US citizen) are planning to marry in Mendoza, Argentina on Dec 1, 2023. We’re trying to understand all the requirements for the marriage to be official and legal to get the marriage certificate in Argentina. I saw on another website that I need to obtain a certificate of legal capacity to marry from the US embassy in Argentina. And that we need to file “banns of marriage”.. does this apply for Argentina? Are there any US citizens here who have gone through this process and can point me in the right direction as far as the local Argentina legal requirements? We have a date with the casa gobierno 30 days before the wedding. We’re also planning to hire a licensed translator for the ceremony. We just want to make sure we don’t miss anything or screw anything up. Our ultimate goal is to apply for a CR-1 visa once we have the marriage certificate.
  16. We're filling out the I-130 form online for a US citizen petitioning for their adult child. We made it to the end of the form and the only evidence it asked us to submit was for the birth certificate and naturalization certificate. It did not ask us to submit copies of the child's current passport or any type of ID. Is this correct?
  17. Helping a relative fill out the I-130 online for their adult kid. We're up to section on "Immigration Information". The beneficiary has both a passport and a travel document. it's not clear however if we need to report both or just the passport.
  18. I am an I-130 petitioner, and it has been approximately two years since my initial filing date. The processing by USCIS experienced significant delays, further compounded by a Request for Evidence (RFE) which added to the timeline. Currently, my case is in the NVC stage, and I've observed that the NVC seems to be reviewing and Documentarily Qualifying (DQing) cases within a span of roughly two weeks. Given the extended duration my case has taken, is there an option to expedite the process? If so, could someone please guide me on the appropriate procedure?
  19. I am currently filling up the I-130a form . I am a student , and have been doing my bachelor's degree and now my Master's. I don't have an employment history yet other than one internship I did . Should I put that I am a student in the employment area? This is what they said to do " Provide your employment history for the last five years, whether inside or outside the United States. Provide your current employment first. If you are currently unemployed, type or print "Unemployed" in Item Number 1. below. If you need extra space to complete this section, use the space provided in Part 7. Additional Information." It doesn't mention studies anywhere in there. I would really appreciate your help with this . Thank you so much
  20. My initial email was sent on June 2, 2022 and answered the same day by the doctor himself. We exchanged several emails and set the appointment for June 27th. He inspected my wife and daughter's vaccine records via email and recommended certain vaccines that require time between doses. He gave the remaining vaccines at the appointment. He suggested I plan to have them remain in Vilnius until July 1 in the event of a reaction to the vaccines. Medical was submitted electronically to Frankfurt on June 29th. The appointment times for a Frankfurt medical were several months out at this time so Vilnius was a great option. He also did not require a translator at the exam and only needed legible vaccine records.
  21. Well I hate to have to come here and say this, but after 8 months of marriage my wife and I are going to get divorced. Were going to do it here in Mexico then I'm going to take off once its finalized. Her I-130 is still in process. If it gets approved during the divorce process and I ignore the RFE's I assume nothing will move forward correct? If we don't go to the interview, if I dont sign the Affidavit of Support, if we don't go to medical I assume nothing will move forward? Therefore I don't have much to worry about in that regard? Should I write to USCIS requesting a withdrawal or something even though were not divorced yet? She has not been handling this process at all so she wouldn't be able to try to move anything forward anyway. Any advice is appreciated. Best
  22. Hi all, I have applied for visas for my parents. However, now that the cases have been sent to the National Visa Center (NVC), they have assigned one of the cases to Abu Dhabi and the other to Yerevan. Unfortunately, there is no US embassy where my parents reside, and NVC no longer accepts phone calls. Although I have already sent them an email, I have not yet received a response. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I would like to know if it is possible to change the location for one of the cases so that my parents can travel together. I have not paid the fees or filled out the DS-260 form yet.
  23. Hello everybody , As you know, I have completed the application procedures And when I checked, I discovered the error in the physical address field. I put the old address where I lived the first time I came to Morocco, and not my current physical address. Some advices, please. Thank you.
  24. My husband came to the US after I petition him k1 visa year 2017 we got married the same year and I didn’t file I-130/aos right away and now we’re ready will it affect that it took us this long to AOS? I just started working will it be ok to just send my paystubs since I wasn’t able to file last years tax because we didn’t have income? Me and my two son was on calworks and calfresh during those year will it affect if we file our aos now? Should we just wait until next year so that i have tax returns to show?
