When to give up on our K1.... Never ending wait during Covid

Currently have had NOA2 approved since early February for my fiancee in the Philippines, but we had our interview cancelled in March due to Covid. With the way the politics are in the Philippines, it seems like to me that the US Embassy might not even open next year. I am thinking about setting May 1 as the "give up"date, as it seems like we have to move on with our lives at some point.

Let’s unpack this.  
 

i don’t know to what you are referring with respect to politics in the Philippines.  If you are implying that the Philippines will terminate diplomatic relations with the US, then the beneficiary can have visa processing in a nearby country.  
 

As for “move on”, move on to what? The pandemic has shut most things down.  What would either of you do instead?

The embassy is closed to K-1 visa processing, unless you can prove a hardship or special exemption.

What evidence do you have that the consulate will remain closed for the entire year?  World-wide closures were due to Covid.  Vaccinations are rolling out across the world.

I don't have a direct line with the Philippines president obviously. But of course I have been following the situation closely there and the politics seem to be "stay closed down until everybody gets vaccinated and Covid is gone forever" before things return to "normal"

You can give up if you want but do not blame government for shutting down things. No one wants this covid.

Embassies around the world are starting to process visas again. It will happen. They already have your file so you will be the first to be called. 
 

Remember until January 21 the embassies are taking still guidance from Pompeo.

Your "love" is in the question. Some visa types request decades of waiting. Try to date local so no more waiting.

It will take some time for the embassies/consulates to return to normal operations, given the varying recovery periods in their respective countries.  This includes gauging coronavirus safety in general, achieving normal staffing levels, and catching up on burgeoning backlogs.

 

If your levels of love or interest won't endure, you may look back on this, years from now, and conclude, "Everything happens for a reason."

When my husband and I started dating, we'd known each other for over a decade and were best friends. I still needed a LOT of time to make sure I was certain that I wanted a relationship with him. He was patient, VERY patient, and never gave up on me, even when I asked for more space and less pressure. I wasn't any less in love with him, I just needed to be sure I knew what I was doing before I committed to him. His attitude was, I waited this long for you, I can wait a bit longer. Giving up completely wasn't an option for either of us unless we figured out we weren't compatible. He gave me all the space and time I needed, and for that I am grateful. We married 2 months ago and the wait was worth it -- we worked out many potential problems when we were just dating or engaged so we didn't fly into the marriage blind and hoping for the best. 

 

OP, why is a wait like this unsurmountable for you? It's not going to be much longer until we're all out of this mess. You are only waiting for an interview -- when K1s begin reprocessing, you'll be at the head of the line. What makes May a deadline for you? Most importantly, does your fiancee know this? What would she say if you said to her what you've told us today?

if 8 months is a issue. wait for the next 70 years with a wife and the future   you sure wont be ready for that.

So is May 1, 2021 the day you officially "move on" from the K1 application, or the relationship entirely?

 

If the relationship is no longer worth the wait, you are by all means entitled to move on. But I certainly hope that your fiancée knows that this is the direction you're headed in.
