This is really idiotic and a delayed reaction. It would be good when the virus first popped up, but it is pointless now.

Most people really don't have that much to worry about, as it's mostly elderly and those with a weakened immune system that are being affected the most. That said, the virus is still is dangerous and is spreading like wildfire. 

 

HOWEVER: 

 

The CDC estimates up 20,000 - 50,000 people died during  the current flu season in the US, and that there have been 50 million cases of the flu so far:

Millions of people die from TB, Cholera and Malaria still every year. 

 

Obviously, you should be extremely cautious and take the necessary precautions, but I feel the whole thing is blown way out of proportion.

Hi,

 

As you all guys probably heard recently, Trump closed access to USA territory from every traveler coming from Europe (shengen space only I believe) because of the coronavirus.

 

Here is my situation: I am french and visiting my wife under a tourist visa while waiting for CR1 visa process to schedule our interview to the embassy of USA in Paris, France. We did a consular processing and submitted all the documents to the NVC on the 27th of february 2020. 

 

The tricky thing is that we are pregnant and expecting the birth for May 12th 2020 but my tourist visa duration of stay ends on the 30th of April 2020. Since I cannot return to France or I wont be accepted back in the US for the birth, do you think I can ask for the national visa center to make an expedite request with our case ? Or would they let me stay in the US in order to attend the birth of our baby and not risk the spread of this COVID-19 ?

So just to be clear this is a ban on flights leaving from EU only right? Not those with EU passports

 

If that's the case people can still travel to the US via other continents if I am not mistaken

My IR1 visa was issued on March 6th and I am currently waiting on my passport to come back . 
we are supposed to fly on April 2nd from France.

dont know what to do or think anymore ..

I'm hoping that the airline industry puts enough pressure on them to not extend this, because it's a stupid ban to begin with. I can totally see this being extended indefinitely, which kind of scares the out of me, considering that I'll probably get my K1 in about 2 to 3 months.

 

At least he got a step closer to closing the borders, which has been his goal from the start.

Nope, everyone who's been in one of the affected countries for two weeks prior to their flight. I guess you could take a two week vacation in Canada or the UK first, as a loophole.

Totally agree with you.

A ban like this is effective on the virus only if applyable on EVERYBODY. What I mean is that everybody should stop travelling for couple of weeks to stop spreading the virus. Let's say the US reopens the flights in a month, but the virus is still happily travelling somewhere else... it becomes an endless story.

France may go to stage 3 tonight - the président is going to speak, schools, universities may be closed I assume but I dont think he will ban flights (eventhough he should).

It is hard for everybody but if we want to get rid of it, it has to be radical for a short period of time.

that's the thing and the question : what happens once you arrive to the US, do they test you?

do you have to be kept in quarantine in a facility in the airport?

I am sort of surprised Shengen has not been suspended already in Europe.
