Well, I have been trying not to get political here but if you're potentially affected by this and you think voting for Trump is a good idea in November, it's like being a turkey voting for Thanksgiving.

Exactly.

This is absurde. What this overripe orange in office has done is utilize the pandemic and use it as a political instrument.

It is the same overripe orange that called for a physical wall in the 21st century.

Now the overripe orange wants to  suspend all immigration in order to protect jobs. Key words: all and jobs. Meaning he will suspend immigration for as long as he can. Once this order will go in effect, it is easy for the overripe orange to say the unemployment rate is too high to reconsider reversing the executive order.

Also -- the supreme court is in the overripe orange's side. Last time they voted in his favor by a vote. Likely, same will happen here too.

Frustrating.

Its kind of a gray area. For example the UK embassy classifies them as immigrant

https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/

K-1's are a grey area because they are "dual intent" non-immigrant visas, which means it's legal to enter the US on them with the intent to adjust status and immigrate, if one so desires.

Ah yes, I went onto Google what happens to your status if the card expires. Still a little blurry what it means for people with conditional residence permits (ie myself). Hopefully nothing beyond delays.

Hopefully it'll be just a delay. GC is just a document, not a status. Not sure what happens when the conditional residency expires though. I think we're all waiting for some clarifications of the EO. Seems a bit extreme even by Trump's standards.

Like i said if he ban family based immigration it will a battle in court like last time his ban .. and then court  had to explain and after  amendment in same order so i dont think. But lets see what he do

Wow, I was visiting my american fiance when the lock down happened, was supposed to fly back to France late march , get my interview and then move here on a K1. When the lock down happened and my interview was postponed to June, we decided I would stay here as my return flight was cancelled, my current tourist visa expires may 13th and this throws massive doubt on our case. Do we risk getting unable to see each other for a long time if I fly back? Do we have any alternatives? I mean I'm currently in the US, it's confusing

Well, prior to this executive order being signed, you'd have the alternative of marrying in the USA and filing to adjust status. But who knows if that's allowed under the pending order.

I would bet that it will impact more than just work visas.

I'm not saying it necessarily won't...but a $100 bet for a $10k payout is a no-brainer. There's not nearly enough information to be so confident in anything so specific.

The guy hates family based "chain" immigration, we know that.

How does it violate the constitution?

Assuming it does, they can always claim national emergency. Otherwise they'd be violating the constitution with every stay-at-home order or prevention of assembly.

The greatest economic boom in U.S. history was reversed in just a couple of months.

economic boom??

we havent had a boom since the 50' - 70's...

the economy has been in freefall after 2008 and it is worse even now.

the reason the fake stock market has been going up is because of t FED injected trillions into the market thus creating an "illusion" that the economy is good. when in reality this economy has been freefalling in a deep hole for decades...

in 2008 they delayed the inevitable collapse, we NEVER recovered from it... they only applied a temporary band aid on it. and now the collapse is finally happening. it will be worse than 1929 and 2008 combined.

every president has been a puppet and they are given a script to follow.. trump is the same, and so was obama

If I remember, Obama granted about 800k people with unlawful residency in the US a 2 year period of deferred action from deportation and eligibility for a work permit in the U.S, that's not much of a script to follow and perhaps another Prez in November will have similar insight.

Wall Street Journal is reporting speculation it's for work visa with exceptions for farm workers and healthcare workers and won't affect immigrants already in the US.
