As expected, whenever a hardliner rule was set out to curb legal immigrants. You can see a bunch of elite members here who are done or almost done with their journey, gathering and chanting the rule is reasonable. I'm not going to reply or read any of you people replies, so don't waste your time. This forum is used to be good and filled with tolerant members, now it became a favorite gathering place of Trump's cult. Excuse for my bad English, I'm not from your 1st countries.

What is your problem with this rule?  Healthcare was always considered a factor when support affidavits are reviewed.

K-1 visa is not an immigrant visa.  Immigrant status will not be obtained until AOS is completed

So if I understand correctly than I can show proof at AOS interview or the packet that I am sifting through now?
I know we will have the new form for “totality” as we will apply after October deadline and I believe on that form is where I can show proof ?
Sorry for sounding ignorant but we are just now receiving visa.
Thanks Hank

Yes, it was.......and imo, too many people fail to realize that health care is a MAJOR cost of living in the US.....or they think they are entitled to having everyone else pay for their care.......I just don't understand the issue people have with enforcing this policy..

My spouses insurance did not allow him to add me without an SSN. For those who were successful did you have to provide a passport number etc?

Does anyone have any guesses as to whether travel insurance will be acceptable and what level might be required? I couldn't add my spouse under my employment based insurance without an SSN (and admittedly wasn't worried about it at the time because was just planning to add him once he arrived during our open-enrolment period, though the timeframes for this don't add up anymore). We are willing to buy travel insurance or short-term to cover him until my open enrollment period (which will be more than 30 days after his arrival in the US) but the lack of guidance means we don't even know where to start with coverage levels.

If anyone has any ideas/suggestions as to what kind of stop-gap insurance to look into, I am all ears. And feeling desperate

You CAN add your spouse pending SS number and in fact it’s legally required that they open enrollment for your spouse for life event change (marriage). You actually have a limited number of days to do so.

It is treated as enrolling a newborn.  It would be good to have a quiet talk with HR about that.  When pressed they somehow remember the rules and will get that done for you.

I have seen cases of new immigrants being assigned a "place holder" number instead of a SSN.    There is no law requiring a SSN to be added.....

Before: good health, no insurance : pass

Now: good health, no insurance ( or unable to demonstrate how wealthy you are) denied

That’s the difference. Now my biggest problem is despite having said I was not going to read or reply any of you people replies, people still quoted me, it alerted me with email. Thank you, and please leave me alone. If my comment hurt you, my sincerely deepest apology!

Pres. Trump is only stating.. ENFORCE existing law.           Are you saying you only expect laws to be enforced when it suits your need ;)

A bit more of history - Public charge was passed into law in the year 1800. It has a re-determination every 20 years to keep up with times.
In 1919 ther wasn't any social security. In 1939 re determination it was added. Social security was enacted in 1937.

So..

Either way this has been around a very long time. He is just enforcing what’s already in place that we never used.

I do believe it will be tougher but coming to the the US without the means would be even harsher.
I’d  rather it be prior to being approved than finding out we could not afford the costs until after he gets here.
Just my opinion and hope it only protects the immigrant and the USC from the heartache of realizing this after we start our lives together. ❤️
