If I recall, the social media information was not mandatory, and not mandatory field in the profile on CGI website.

No worries they also are not required to issue a visa if information is incomplete.

Nothing you can do about it now. Just be ready to answer questions if they ask.

 

I'm just a bit puzzled about she is so worried about her SM I mean does she have any idea about the personal info you have to provide and also in the future for both of you?

From what I have read, applicants are not required to provide passwords.....only identifiers and handles..., so I don't know what the big issue......

I get not wanting to disclose information unless required, but keep in mind passport numbers, addresses, DOBs, work and travel history, SSN (later), etc. are just a few items that must be disclosed in the process. Social media usernames are at the bare bottom of that in terms of risk of identity theft.

Edit: And photos, biometrics, etc.

It’s not mandatory because not everyone has social media accounts. If an applicant does, I’m sure they want them to disclose it. Like others mentioned, they may interpret the blank lines as “I don’t have any social media accounts”. If so, that could be much more problematic then just declining to provide the information asked.

Very simple if you want the visa then you'll submit what is required. Like what @Greenbaum says he who has the gold makes the rules. If you want the visa then you'll have her give up the information. Of course they can't force you to, but then they don't have to approve you either. I would think that is a given and very easy to answer.

Exactly.  And actually using those usernames within social media puts them at greater risk of ID theft than disclosing them to the DOS.

So she’s happy to consent to a medical, let them see her birth certificate, give them her birthdate, full name, address, email address, provide her passport number and possibly credit card details (depending on how she intends to pay the visa fee), have her photo and fingerprints taken but is worried someone might hack her Facebook account? 

 

Hmm that makes perfect sense. What exactly does she think the government is going to do with her Facebook account that will cause more damage then anyone could do with the information that she did provide?
