It’s possible, but also possible that @Roelis right.

Being defensive about info given will not change the answer.  Sometimes there just isn’t a happy answer.

Or in some cases, 1.5 years later, you decided not to have a party anymore. See, $30,000 saved just like that

Personally, I skipped the fancy formality and do not regret that at all.  We spent a total of $1,500 for a state park wedding and a dinner with immediate family.  Best decision ever.  I know some people want the fancy party and that’s great too.  Whatever works for the couple :)

They are in for a wild ride with some of the posts they are going to see... especially from you Roel haha.

I literally love Roel’s posts.  Tactful with no bs, and that’s exactly how it should be.

You are certainly free to seek an expedite.

However, given these circumstances, I doubt you would receive one.

Concur with pretty much everybody else - free to apply but don't expect anything to happen from it.

None of the expedite criteria fits the circumstances - no money is being loss for not attending a celebration. Either it's the opportunity to attend being lost (doesn't fit any criteria) or it's money not being spent yet that would be spent if you did go (the non-deposit part of any arrangement). There's no financial hardship being caused by not attending.

Best bet at this point is to either reschedule the event and try to salvage as much of the costs as you can, or to attend it and then start over with an I-130 for a CR-1 visa. Or just try the expedite and likely risk salvaging much of anything.

USCIS will expedite an application, including an application for a travel document, Form I-131, in certain situations, which may include:

  • Severe financial loss to company or person;
  • Emergency situations;
  • Humanitarian reasons;
  • Nonprofit organization whose request is in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States;
  • Department of Defense or National Interest Situation (Note: The request must come from an official U.S. Government entity and state that delay will be detrimental to the Government.);
  • USCIS error; or
  • Compelling interest of USCIS.

This is the criteria to get the AP expedited.

Also, when we were planning the wedding, the processing times were less than 3 months. Research done, circumstances changed.

It’s been YEARS since the ead/ap was granted in less than 3 months. I filed 3 years ago at it took over 90 days already...

It was under 90 days a few times in 2016, before backlogs started growing again. Example: https://web.archive.org/web/20160906035326/https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/apstats.php

Off topic question, would there be an issue if USCIS knew you have a wedding ceremony/reception outside US?

No. A ceremony/celebration abroad has no negative impact on AOS.
