appears the Washington Times disagrees with you on responsibility for the backlog

Legal immigrants lined up to apply for U.S. citizenship ahead of last year’s election, but the Obama administration let them down, as the agency responsible for approving applications botched the process, leaving tens of thousands of eligible people stuck in limbo.

The Department of Homeland Security blamed the problem on a spike in applications, but the numbers don’t bear out that explanation. Applications rose 14 percent compared with the 2012 election year, but the backlog surged 64 percent.

Actually, that article supports my statement.

Yeah, I think the backlog isn't because they're intentionally trying to stop people from voting, but because they're too busy chasing down and deporting legal immigrants who had a misdemeanor charge a few decades ago.

From the NBC article in the first post:

And the very next paragraph continues Michael Bars' quote:

"Many of these cases, which can remain pending from one quarter to the next, are well within the processing time goal established by the agency with variances being a direct result of geography and capacity. USCIS will continue to process all applications and petitions in a judicious and comprehensive manner and will do so as efficiently and expeditiously as possible in accordance with the law," he added. "We reject the inaccurate claims of those fundamentally opposed to this effort."

And this is the crux of the matter. USCIS keeps moving the established time goals out further and further. It's much easier to stay within the processing time goals if you're free to change the goals every 2 months.

The backlog of pending applications for immigrants legally in the country trying to become U.S. citizens has “skyrocketed” under President Donald Trump, according to a new report from an immigrant rights organization.

There were nearly 730,000 pending naturalization applications as of the end of last year, a more than 87 percent increase since 2015 under President Barack Obama, according to the report from the National Partnership for New Americans, an alliance of immigrants' rights groups.

“The Trump admin has built a second wall that prevents legal immigrants in the U.S. from becoming voting U.S. citizens,” Joshua Hoyt, executive director of the partnership, told NBC News.

He said the backlog at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services means processing rates have reached as high as 20 months, raising concerns in a critical mid-term election year that some people will be unable to vote. Last year, over 925,000 people applied for U.S. citizenship, according to the report.

It is also pretty important to me, because this backlog that has arisen is going to create quite a large headache for us in that it probably means my one child will turn 18, and probably even move away to college, before my application will be processed. These will happen, respectively, about 7 months and 12 months after I can file

@SusieQQQthe estimates they put out don't mean much. I applied in February as soon as my 90 day window opened, with a GC anniversary date of May 26 (they won't send an interview date before the anniversary). On May 31 I already got an interview scheduled for July 10. Meanwhile, my estimate is still February 2019, which is obviously way off.

Shall I get us back on topic here? Might be an idea.

I filed my application on April 14th, did my biometrics in May, my interview was two Fridays ago, and my naturalization oath is set for August 7th. I'm in Vermont so I'm guessing it's less busy than most though.

There are outliers such as yours.

I also recently saw someone who did N400 in 90 days, which reminded me that I got my GC in 91 days while it is taking more than that now for just the EAD. My N400 was just shy of a year.

President Trump is openly hostile to immigration, unless the immigrant is from Norway or another 'beautiful country.' His inflammatory, hate-filled pronouncements do not help solve any immigration problems. To deny that is to do the ostrich thing--bury one's head in the sand.

Sounds like some people need to stop watching CNN/MSNBC and such other news networks who tend to take all the President's words out of context. For example..... "MS-13 members are 'animals'.... media reports he called all immigrants animals... mean that says it all.

He didn't specifically call immigrants animals. He referred to them as an "infestation" . When people  talk about infestation, they are referring to insects and animals.

I'm stuck in the very real and not fake backlog of N-400 applications at Dallas, one of the most backlogged field offices for naturalisation in the country. They're currently at 16.5 to 20 months.

I applied on 3rd January and am obviously still waiting, but there are others who have applied after me and are already US citizens by virtue of the fact that the field offices serving their locations are nowhere near as underwater as mine is. Surely it world be fairer and more equitable to shift resources from those offices with lighter workloads to those with heavier ones, to try and make it so we all get ~6-8 months, and not some 4 months and others 14 months just from a zip code lottery.

Imagine the same thing happening for other federal services, such as obtaining a Social Security card, or a US passport. That sort of disparity wouldn't fly there, so I'm not sure why it can here.

In my case, I require US for my chosen career, and can literally do nothing towards it until I am a US citizen. I've attempted an expedite, which was denied. A week or so ago I wrote to both of my US Senators and my Congressman about the extreme delays for naturalisation at the Dallas field office. Unfortunately, since my Senators are Ted Cruz and John Cornyn then my message will likely be placed into the circular filing cabinet marked "Trash" in their offices. But I will know that I did all that I could and all that could be done under these circumstances, both for myself and for others trapped in the Dallas morass.

In addition to Dallas, Minnesloooooowta is probably one of the main reasons for these statistics.  It has nothing to do with the president, but rather just our field office being a little too laid back.

3/2/18  E-filed N-400 under 5 year rule

3/26/18 Biometrics

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.
