Struggling to Find A Sponsor

• Our Story
  Me and My Wife got married December 2nd, 2022. She lives in Washington and I live in Afghanistan. We filed our I-130 at the beginning of February and we got our approval after 28 days and after a week our case was transferred to NVC.
  
  It has been a few months since then. I am 19 and as my wife is also just 19, she was attending High School last year and didn't make enough and this year as well she is not making enough.
  My father in law didn't make enough as well last year but he has a house as an asset. We are looking for a joint Sponsor considering our complicated financial situation.
  We hope we can find it. Our Situation is very tough.

   

  Reading our Story,  what would be your suggestion for the solutions?

Maybe now is not the right time for you yet, you both are still so young, she just came out of high school!

 

I know I sound REALLY old when I say this, but marriage and immigration are such serious matters, and jumping in at 19 years old seems very young to me. I know every 19 year old is different, but at the same time I wonder if you researched everything BEFORE you embarked on this journey? The financial requirements are clear, so you would have known that she didn't make enough and should have had a qualified joint sponsor lined up already. Were you both aware of the financial responsibilities when you started the process? 

 

Have her start a good job, so she has more financial stability and start thinking about (continuing) your immigration journey in the future?

Your wife and father-in-law will need to earn more income. Or they can ask friends and family to be joint sponsors. They may have luck asking nonprofits or their imam for help finding better paying jobs.

 

@Daphne . I assume the current situation in Afghanistan played a significant role in their decision to marry early.

Exactly! It definitely was due to the current situation otherwise we were planning to get educated and marry later. 

So i should go as an Imam or some no profit?

Where I am a job at Walmart would allow you to sponsor 4 people.

So If She Works at Walmart She can make enough to sponsor me but i wonder if that is possible considering she is also attending college.

She might be able to work and study at the same time… many people do this… but what is more important right now? Going to school or reuniting with you? You should discuss the possibilities with her… your wife should join VJ, too as she is the one who can clarify what is and isn’t possible…

It's tough to study and work at the same time, even without a spouse to sponsor.

 

Your wife will need to make a decision: focus on school OR focus on earning enough to sponsor you OR try to do both at the same time.

Qualifying as a sponsor and actually affording to live in the US are two different things. Personally, I think the qualifications are way too low.

Especially here in Washington state, where the cost of living is huge.

No.   An imam or nonprofit cannot sponsor you.

Your wife could take a semester or a year off from school, work full time and pick up some overtime. After you immigrate you can work and help support her while she is finishing her degree.

Furthermore note that financial issues are the #2 cause of divorce. Being young and broke are not good markers for a sustaining marriage. I guess what I am recommending is, it shouldn’t be just about financially qualifying, that’s a low bar to clear. There should be enough income to reduce chances of stress from finances.
