Did the CO review the timeline related to the online marriage and your subsequent meeting after the online ceremony?  I only ask as there are always questions regarding the online weddings, but most of the time those questions revolve around doing it online and then getting approval without meeting (or to use the USCIS term "consummated").  I am curious if you provided evidence of the meeting in person after the ceremony thereby satisfying USCIS.

Apparently, the CO did not ask anything related to meeting in person after the online marriage or anything similar. Which I would have expected based on how everyone focuses on the consummation part, as you say.

Thanks, I just want to make sure we don't give out poor advice in the future.  In your specific case, you met the requirements as to meeting after the online or proxy marriage so it was approved properly (I assume you provided evidence of that meeting when you filed the I130 afterward).  It may not have been the same result if that meeting had not taken place.

Regardless, Congrats! and Good Luck with your future immigration journey!  :)

That's not entirely accurate. I met him a year before we married. I've seen him in person a total of twice for three weeks each time. In regards to the post you made about your own spousal visa, good luck, but PLEASE make sure you DO NOT file the CR-1 application (the I-130) UNTIL AFTER you have met with him. As with myself, I did not file until I was with him physically for two weeks after marrying online.

Why did you two marry online and not in person? Just curious since you saw him after you were married online, and didn't file until after you saw him following your marriage.

I was only able to get into his country through a spouse exception as they were not allowing anyone from my state regardless of if I spent time somewhere else for 14 days or more at the time. There was no timeline at that time on how long that ban would last, and even still the process to get married in his country and have the certificate in hand to apply for the CR-1 was three months or more even if I could have gotten in to get married there. And on top of that, you need a lawyer for the ceremony, even without an actual wedding, and that would have been $400 more and I still would have needed to pay for the plane ride. The cheapest, fastest, and only certain route to start the CR-1 was to get married online.

They should pin your post from last November somewhere as it was very detailed and informative on the topic.

Ironically at that time I very carefully considered your post as an alternative to the plans my Filipina wife and I had made to marry IN Costa Rica as OUR solution to COVID travel bans.  We still went the Costa Rica marriage route and don't regret it at all but if we hadn't already had our plans made when I saw your post we may well have gone that route instead.  We really had a great time in Costa Rica though.  You were spot on about the lawyer fee in Costa Rica though that was no big deal to us.  It took us just a month which included Christmas and New Years  to get our Costa Rica marriage certificate issued issued Marriage certificate issued.  Apostille in Costa Rica turned into a time consuming thing but that isn't needed for the USCIS, we just needed the Apostille for Philippines government. I certainly don't see our case advancing anywhere near as fast as yours.

Congratulations!  So based on your OP, you were married online, and then went and visited your spouse after the online ceremony.  I think this is key relative to the online wedding.  Did they ask about the timeline there?

It’s the only extra requirement for proxy marriages.

This is exampled as the correct way to go about the IR/CR process for a proxy wedding.

Did you use an attorney or file yourself?

There was no question as to the requirement to physically see one another prior to marriage? Was that waived due to Covid?

Absolutely WONDERFUL news. Your story gives hope to us all.

I filed myself. I did physically see him a year before the marriage, but also, no one questioned it either.

Thank you.

Hello,

I was just wondering how did you get married online? Is there a specific site that you went to get this done?

Also, did you guys met before face to face before you guys got married online?

Just want to see if me and my fiancee can try this as well.
