Okay i guess there is no actual law that says after arrival he has to go to a school the very next day or something? Thank you for the effort !!

Oh certainly nothing as harsh as Germany (which I know is very strict.. the HSLDA has represented German parents before). I would say a lot of states do require the parent to notify the state school superintendent abut being homeschooled but don't believe there is a timeframe or any harsh enforcement... which is why many do still fall through the cracks. Any of the sites I mentioned would give advice on the laws and requirements. If you're serious about homeschooling I would recommend an accredited program (though not required). Back in the day my homeschool even offered the yearly assessment test, report cards, all the grading, and a diploma. Not every program does this, and some homeschool parents just cobble together anything, the child receives little rounded education, and enters the adult world having no documentation. That makes it rough for some young adults. So having been through the system myself, I'm very much about being responsible and careful in the homeschool approach.

If your state is Texas.. they are liberal to the point there is no notice given and no real regulations.

Definitely dont call the school

compulsory_attendance_and_truancy.aspx

Texas has truancy officers and truancy courts

HOWEVER we recently learned that if a school is not meeting state standards the parent has the option to select a different school in the district.

What district is this bad school

You need a free VPN soonest and you need to get cracking on this.  They catch  your child out of school they have an ever-increasing level of incentives to get him in.

There are online programs available for homeschooling.  Look into that?

Well than I would guess you'll have to put the kid in school or enroll for homeschooling as soon as you get there.

Enroll your child in online school. Really easy. I recommend K12 I think it is called. Just google online school K-12 and a good half dozen will come up. You don't have to send your kid to school. If I had kids, I wouldn't send them to public school myself. So set him up online. That's the easy way.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. How did you learn about how bad the original school was? Can't you do the same investigation for other schools? There are many resources available for reviews and ratings of US schools. One such one is here (linking to Texas specifically): https://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schoolrank.aspx

What about your husband? Can he do the research and relay the results to you?

As for a public school, generally that is determined by where you live. Most people don't have a choice. If that's not acceptable, it might be easier to find a new address to move into before arrival with a more acceptable school.

Private schools are an option, although they are not cheap.

Homeschooling is an option, but you have to really, really look at the requirements. Some states are quite strict on what is permitted, ensuring compliance with the public school curriculum, etc.

Online K-12 schools are an option, but I don't have enough experience with them to provide meaningful advice.

How do you know the school is so bad if it is impossible for you to get information about it? My suggestion would be to give it a try and maybe it's not so bad afterall. Good luck.

We had the same problem.  The school districts block overseas IP addresses.  I’m sure they’re way safer right?

You badly need to install a free VPN and you will have access to everything

Are you using the page where all schools are rated? I would look at rating instead of reviews because there will even be unhappy parents at even the best school out there and without the whole story from both side it is hard to judge from only review and also if they are really old.

My my son was also 10 when we moved here he got 5th grade in elementary before 6th in middle school. I don’t know when you move but would definitely try and get him in school as soon as possible. Maybe it’s just the elementary school there is bad and the others good? Your main focus should be the rating of the high school in the district.

Those ratings can be pretty useless depending on the area of the country, as well. Ours bounces around a lot year to year based on how many migrant students are there that year for the harvest or spring planting and how good their previous education was. 6th graders are actually in our high school, but it is mere steps from the elementary.

There is a lot more to take into account that OP really needs to find out before writing off a school. For example, our school operates on more of a Scandinavian model in which all the children are always educated together, so the top students learn patience and help those behind them. They also have beyond zero tolerance for bullying, but I've seen at least one parent go on a FB rant about bullying.  No one took it seriously because we all knew their family just loves drama and to complain. So, there are nuances that might be missing.

Texas public schools are formally rated A,B,C,D,F by (I think) the state agency.  If the OP isn't referring to these ratings and can't find them, I'll try to find the link.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Actually you could use this: https://www.greatschools.org/ it's what I used when I was looking for a school for our child when  my husband and I were looking at places to relocate.
