Hi there,

I came here with my husband on a K-1 VISA, and applied for an EAD and I just received my EAD now but it’s not a combo card! (NOT VALID FOR REENTRY TO US) But I need to travel soon to my home country.

My questions:

- Do you think I have chances to try to expedite my travel authorization?

- Did anyone ever been in this situation and tried to expedite?

Thank you

Very much depends on the reason you need to travel

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

it’s pretty much because I got married here but I want to do my wedding in Italy with the other side of the family

I don’t see it being expedited for that

You're not going to get an expedite for a party.

Expedites are for deaths in the family, etc.  Unplanned things that are true emergencies.

Did you initially apply for an AP when you filed for AOS?

They've decoupled the EAD and AP.

They're thinking it is more important for people to work as opposed to travel.

How long did your EAD take?

Before EAD and AP were taking about 8-12 months to issue. Maybe you will only get AP after 8 or so months.

Hopefully you have not made plans for the ceremony in Italy. If you have- I would cancel the plans ASAP and think about having a ceremony/party in a few years... once you've receive your GC.

Yeah, not an emergency.   Not even a little.

Considering that marriage is way up there with big life events , and family/ religious celebrations are certainly not the equivalent of a weekend w Bernie Party , I think you should at least try and make your case for expedite.
Call USCIS/ use interactive online and try to get an Info Pass , it’s worth the effort to make your case.

USCIS is speeding up EAD processing by decoupling them from the I-131/AP applications which apparently take longer for them to process.

You can try and expedite but you need to demonstrate something akin to the below:

Urgent humanitarian reasons or emergencies

Severe financial loss

US Governmental interests

Oh...I see this is for a marriage ceremony in Italy. Nope, absolutely not. Hell, I've been married 2 years now and I haven't had a family ceremony or honeymoon thanks to Covid uncertainty and my husband being at risk. You'll have to wait.
