Covid Vaccine and Immigrants

There is no requirement to get the Covid vaccine. You can ask the embassy's panel physicians about the vaccines they check for.

There are certain exemptions that are allowed for religious reasons, or if the physician determines that the vaccines are not medically appropriate. You'd probably get better answers if you specified which country the spouse is from.

I'm mainly concerned about the COVID vaccine.

Wife is French. We are currently in Taiwan.

OK, if she will interview at the American Institute in Taiwan, here are the medical examination instructions:

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/TAI-Taipei.html#medical_exam_instructions

During the medical exam

The medical examination will include a medical history review, physical examination, and chest X-ray, gonorrhea test, and blood tests (for applicants 15 years of age or older). The United States also requires tuberculosis (TB) testing for all applicants two years of age and older. Please be prepared to discuss your medical history, medications you are taking, and current treatments you are undergoing. More information on general medical requirements for U.S. immigrants is available here. U.S. immigration law requires immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations prior to the issuance of a visa. Current immigrant visa vaccination requirements are available here. You can also read Frequently Asked Questions about our medical examination requirements online.

And that link points to this CDC list of required vaccines for immigrants. The COVID vaccine isn't listed.

I can see a future when it could possibly become a requirement to immigrate to the US, but only after it becomes widely available worldwide.

Timeline

A negative COVID test result, with the test taken no more than 72 hours before boarding a flight to the US, is currently all that is required to enter (assuming documents, visa, etc. are in order and CBP allows entry).  I just returned from a quick weekend trip to Canada, and to enter Canada I needed proof of being fully vaccinated plus a negative PCR test result, and had to get another test right after landing in Canada.  But to return, all I needed was a negative test result, and a rapid antigen test (available at most major airports, results within 2 hours) was fine.
