1) Reapply in 6 months --- Does this do anything or is she permanently banned until she dies without seeing her grandkids?

Likely denial again but it is the cheapest method to see just in case they approve.

2) My wife apply for the N-400 Naturalization thing....Takes what? 1 year? Then after 2 years of being a citizen so a total of 3 years out (???? guessing on time ????) she can petition her mom for a greencard (?) which would take another year (total 4 years?).

Your wife can petition for her mother the moment she becomes the US citizen. Could be as early as 2 years, could be late.

3) Wife goes in the winter to visit Mexico --- $3000 in airfare and then living expenses for a few weeks.

Wow that expensive in airfare? Wife and kids? If you don’t want your MIL staring at you all the time with Option 2, this could be costly but mind compromised option.

4) Mother-in-law pays $750 (about going rate) to fly Acapulco to Toronto. We drive 4 hours which isn't bad and seems kinda cost effective besides daily meals for 5 people and hotels would cost a fortune. Not to mention I'd be dragged over there for a week when to be honest I don't have any relationship with her !

Doesn’t she need visa to canada? If so dependent on that and the issues you mentioned.

Just baffled that apparently they accept 75% of tourist visa applicants out of Mexico and that means 75% of the people applying have "the right connections" and/or say the right things. Cause from what I briefly read never in a million years (or very rarely) would they ever ask to see documentation. It is all determined by what you say to the idiot at the desk.

Don't know where you live but even from Toronto the airfare for one person is only around $500. Double that if the 4 year old is travelling too, the 9 month old should be flying for free. In my opinion, if your wife has a good relationship with her mom and really wants to go visit, then that is something you can't put a price on. Visiting family is priceless in my opinion. Plus her mother is not getting younger, who knows how many more years she will have. Just my opinion though, everyone is different.

I'm showing $800 (little more) if you want a 6.5 hour 1-stop flight. And you can spend $550 if you want 12.5 hour 1-stop flight from Detroit to Acapulco.

We would pay the premium for half the time spent travelling.

So around $1600 in airfare if the new-born travels free. So I over-exaggerated price

Yeah then it does get pricier. Good luck with whatever you decide to do and hopefully your wife can see her mom soon! 10 years is a very long time. Longest I've ever made it was 1 and a half and that was torture.

Her daughter, being an LPR, her grand kids, all good reasons to just stay in the US.

This assumes the "idiot behind the desk" (person that approves/denies application) is too dumb to realize my wife can just apply to be a USC and it guarantees that she can petition her mom a green card so that she can visit 1 time a year????

All 100% guaranteed approval??? Isn't that a good enough argument that the idiot behind the desk should approve?

Check out my signature link below for my parents' b2 application. You might find some helpful tips there. I posted some sample questions that your mom in law could prepare for on her next interview. Good luck!

You don't say how your wife came to the US? This answer can also be why the denial.

Green cards are not for "visiting once a year", if she uses it for that it will be revoked.

If your wife wants to petition her mother she is free to do so, the CO is assuming she is potentially bringing her mother to the US to adjust status, circumventing the visa process.

I'm sure they are all functioning at above-average levels of intelligence. I'm sure there might be a slow one here or there but I'd assume the vast majority are pretty sharp as I'd imagine they'd have to be.

Just disappointed in the denial and think it is a funny name. I don't literally think they are idiots.
