How to increase chance of Approval. PLEASE HELP!!

Hello. My husband is a Permanent Resident and his citizenship paperwork is currently in processing. I am a US Citizen. We would like for his mother to come and visit us because we are unable to go to Egypt due to cost, getting off from work, and health issues of my 2-year-old. She has never seen her grandchildren. What type of visa should we apply for? She did apply for a tourist visa previously at the Consulate in Egypt and was denied. Should we send her any specific paperwork and have her re-interview in Egypt or is there a way for me to apply for her from here in the US? Please help this grandmother to see her grandchildren (ages 2 and 7), see her son who she hasn't seen in 5 years and to see me who she hasn't seen in 8 yrs. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP!!!!

There is nothing you can do or send to improve her chances. She will be interviewed and assessed on her own merits. Nothing else comes into play or will be considered. She needs to demonstrate very strong ties to her homeland. Does she work? Own property? Care for other children or elderly relatives? Does she participate actively in the community such as a youth leader or something? Unfortunately having immediate family in the USA is one of the biggest hurdles to getting a tourist visa. You can thank her fellow country folk who were granted tourist visas but abused the privilege by overstaying or adjusting status for that. 

 

Your situatuon is more common than you might think. There are many, many members here whose family members are repeatedly denied tourist visas to visit them here and who cannot afford to travel to their original home countries. Would it be possible for her to apply for a visa to Canada, for example, and you could make the trip there? Might be cheaper than going to Egypt.

You don't apply for anything. 

She applies. You could help fill up her ds160 and help schedule her appointments. No documents are required from your end.

Sounds like the tourist visa IS the only option for her. And you guys can't apply on her behalf for anything - she has to apply for herself. There aren't any documents you could provide to help her case any more - further proving the fact that she has immediate family in the US doesn't improve her chances, as that's actually one of the red flags that often lead to denials of tourist visas, and serves no purpose in supporting any ties she has to her home country she is visiting from.

 

When it comes to tourist visas, the best thing an applicant can do is prove they have substantial ties to their country, AKA reasons for them to return, and return on time (no overstay). Such as work commitments, mortgage/lease/etc. in their name they must return to.

Like everyone above has said. Perhaps a third party country would be best.

 

We have same issue in sense of the Philippines, very difficult to get a tourist visa and the fact most of his family has never even traveled out of the country really, now having a GC holder son... unlikely. So we just have to travel to them there next year.

With his N400 in process, she could be viewed as an AOS risk on a potential B2. 

 

She could apply for a B2 if she desires, or wait till he becomes a USC and he files an IR5 petition for mom (if she wants to immigrate to the US).

Not everyone wants to immigrate to the US. I feel like that’s a common misconception that people have in this forum and even in this country.

 

I feel your pain. I want my dad & my sister to visit as they have never been to the US. I could easily visit them but it’s just not the same as them getting to experience a few weeks of my life here.

 

I’m currently helping my sister & dad out with applying for their visitor visas. I’m just trying to make sure they have all the necessary paperwork proving they have reason to return (=not overextend their stay). Unfortunately, there really isn’t anything else we can do as their family... other than make sure that they answer the forms correctly, are able to prepare themselves for the interview, and bring in the correct paperwork.

Point noted, however that's the presumption all COs must go by, according to US law. It is up to the b2 applicant to prove otherwise.

Yup. After having been through 2 immigrant visa applications and 1 naturalization interview, I definitely know this.

 

It’s just incredibly presumptive of the US, that’s all! I would have never wanted to immigrate here but if it were not for who I decided to marry.

 

But I guess I will have to blame the citizens of my country who overextended their stay for this process.
