Our Story

  1. Hi Does anyone know if there is a particular order in which i should have my k1 interview documents in, ready to hand over when i get to Sydney consulate? If anyone has had a recent interview with the latest procedures or information that is helping would be appreciated. Also does anyone know what the A number is to write on the back of the 2 passport photos? The ds160 confirmation number is AA, so not sure where to find the A number, its not on my NOA2 or k1-FTP Thanks
  2. Got an email today two months post AOS interview I’m so confused on what to do as my spouse is a K1 visa holder.
  3. hey everyone! this is my first post here. i will soon be having my case sent to the NVC and i am trying to be proactive and get everything ready. I am currently with my fiance overseas and I was reading that most of the documents for the interview need to be the originals. is the affidavit of support a document that would need to be brought to the embassy as an original with my signature on it? or would a copy be fine?
  4. Hello, we received a letter from NVC stating they will now forward our case to the embassy in Montreal, and the process may take several weeks. It also said that the embassy will contact us when they are ready to process our case. I’m wondering, do we start on the DS160 and i134 forms now, or do we do that when the embassy gets in touch with us? Also, when do we schedule the interview… does the embassy tell us when to do that? Thanks in advance!
  5. In addition to asking in an existing thread Ive decided to start a new topic since that thread seems inactive. My fiancee is kenyan. Were doing a k1 and right now our case is at the US embassy in Kenya. She lived in Uganda for a few years for college. A few months ago, she went to Uganda to get a police certificate from the Ugandan police. But I read in another thread where someone mentioned that you have to have a yellow form from Interpol, not the form from the local police. Can anyone confirm this and if so, where would we start? Would she have to back to Uganda to get that?
  6. Hello everyone, My fiancé filed his taxes on Feb 2nd and we still do not have the 2022 tax transcript. I have received package 3 from the US embassy in Madrid where they ask me for the most recent tax transcript, however, the most recent one we have would be 2021. In 2021 my fiancé was not working for his current company. He has been working there since January 2022. In both companies he exceeded poverty lines. All we can do is submit the tax transcript for 2021, W2 for 2022, plus pay stubs for the last few months and the welcome letter from his current company stating the annual salary. Do you think this is enough or do you recommend us to wait for the 2022 tax transcript? Thank you so much!
  7. I’m USA citizen originally from Pakistan. I got engaged to Pakistani girl in Pakistan. Should I apply her K1 visa now or get married in Pakistan and apply for spousal visa? I can get married in pakistan but for Pakistanis there is too much back log for spouse visas. The Islamabad embassy is currently send interviews for those with DQ May 2021. So I’m estimating it would take 3-4 years. Will K1 visa processing be any faster? Should it be wise that I apply for K1 visa and postpone the marriage? Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
  8. Question 1: When on the USCIS website, it said to fill out the visa with the free version of an adobe software that allows you to edit PDF's. However the software does not allow me to fill in every box. For example if I put in my mailing address and then mark "yes" to Is this your same address, i cannot put my address again in the next section. Similar things occurs in many places. It also says to write N/A for things not applicable to you or your fiancé, but that specific box only allows numbers. Should I just print off the paperwork after I fill out the PDF and hand write these things in? Question 2: For Proof, I have many photos of myself with my fiancé IN his country. Along with screen shots of phone calls on apps such as "WhatsApp", and some screen shots as messages. I also have my plane tickets. I was wondering if I should put these in a flash drive and send these over? Should I send my actual plane tickets or just photos of my plane tickets? Should I include the proposal video in a flash drive?
  9. Hello, I submitted a petition for k1 visa for my fiancé from Romania. The case is in process but is taking longer than we expected. He tried to come to the USA with b1 visa but was denied, then tried to come with a work contract that was also denied, now while the k1 is processing he wants to go try again for b1 to come visit me and my parents. I’m just not sure if this is a good idea. Also, if it gets denied will there be any problem with the k1 interview ? Thx!
  10. Hello, everyone! I was wondering if my fiancée has to sign the tax transcripts and if that’s the case then does he need to send me the original tax transcript with a “wet” signature (mail) or a scan copy is fine? thank you!
  11. i recieved my gc approved but the aed and travel authorization was terminated. The application was closed "because the applicant or petitioner received a ststus or benefit through other means". Should i apply for another aed and travel authorization?
  12. Hi everyone, I'm a new member, so please excuse any non-intentional breaches of etiquette. I'm a native of and live in the NYC area, and my S.O. is a native of and lives in the GTA (Canada). We've been together and have known each other for more than seven years. The idea is for her to move down here in about 4-6 months (our timeline). She will be a stay at home wife/mom. No kids right now for either of us (we're late 20's/early 30's in age). We haven't started any paperwork yet, and our case, I feel, is pretty straight-forward - we don't have any criminal record or overstays, and have a real, bonafide relationship with years of established photos and trips. She currently works in Canada and I have a full time job as well in the NYC area. We recently did a religious ceremony in Canada that had no official documentation, or filings with the Canadian locality. This was for the sake of her customs and family, to allow her to travel freely in accordance with her own customs and culture, not for any paperwork or certs. -Based on those circumstances, what is the best route to her coming down and having some sort of status the quickest? Would that be the fiance K1 visa? -What if we got married, either in a third country or in the US (after the 90-day period), and then she just stayed permanently and we filed for the spouse visa (CR1?) -In both of those cases, would there be a gap period, mainly in terms of health insurance? Healthcare, as I'm sure you all know, is expensive in the US, and I'd want to add her to my insurance, but I don't think I'd be able to until she had some sort of legal status, right? Any insight or anecdotes anyone can share on health insurance for your partner during the wait, in case they got sick or hurt and needed to go to the doctor, or if we decided to have a baby during the "wait" period either after she came down on the K1, or after filing paperwork for the CR1 in the 2nd option I mentioned above? -How would it work if she came down, stood at least 90 days, then we got civilly married in the US and filed for the spouse visa? Would it be an auto-reject because it's considered visa fraud? Would we need to act like "oh, we weren't planning this and then it just happened"? If we got married in a third country and then went back to the US, do we tell the CBP officer that we got married in the third country (or are we obligated to)? -In what scenarios can she leave the country or travel (or not)? Can she fly intra-US while waiting for status, or is it going to come up that she's on an overstay or has an immigration doc pending? Essentially, I'm just trying to get an idea on the best route forward to unite based on our intention of her coming down by ~mid-year, and having health insurance coverage through my policy as soon as possible after coming down. Since the plan is for her to be a stay at home, work papers aren't as important at this time. Thank you in advance for any insight and advice on these points!
  13. my fiancé (us citizen) filled the petition in 2021 USCIS received it in October 2021 as of now the case is received and all we got is the recipe notice. Our case is at the California service center, is it normal that we didn’t hear anything yet? Anybody else at the Cali service center ?
  14. Hi All, My wife (fiance at the time) arrived in the US in August of 2022 and we got married in September 2022. She also applied for and received her SSN in September as well. She applied for AOS with an NOA1 date of October 10th. We are now filing our tax return for 2022 and ran into a question. We would like to file jointly (MFJ) but it is unclear to us what her current status actually is. From what I've been able to find on here it seems like for tax purposes she might be a Resident Alien, even if by USCIS standards she isn't one. In reading on if this was correct or not, I found several older posts here on VJ stating we had to file the 2022 tax return by mail (was planning on e-filing with TurboTax) and send in some statement asking her to be considered a Resident Alien for the IRS. Is this correct? I'm unsure if it matters or not, but she had no reportable income for 2022, so we don't have additional forms from that angle to file. Happy to provide more clarification if needed, thanks in advance everyone!
  15. hello all, i was just seeking some advice or experience from others who have been in this situation. my fiancé and i are gay and they currently live in a country that is homophobic. i have a trip in march scheduled to visit for two weeks. i can just say i’m visiting a friend when going through customs and staying at their place. however, we are planning for me to stay there for 3 months end of this year, trying to wait out some of this long waiting approval process since their country is apart of the esta program, but i’m nervous about them denying such a long visit since it’s not usual to visit “a friend” for so long. im hoping that there is someone out there who can share some experience or advice about traveling to visit your fiancé while they live in a homophobic country.
  16. Hey All, Thinking about maybe to go through with marrying using the Utah remote service, and apply directly after with the i130 with the same evidence we provided for the K1, I have visited my fiance once in their country and planning to visit more time in the next months, should we go through with it and provide same proof for k1, pictures together, gifts, chat logs..etc ? thank you
  17. I am a US citizen petitioning for my fiance to move to the US with me on the K1 visa. I currently live and work in my fiance's home country. I will be moving back to the US in a year, but I had a question regarding the I-134 document. I will be using a co sponsor because my international income isn't eligible to support my fiance at this time for the K1 visa. Do I need to complete a I-134 as well as my co sponsor? Will there need to be 2 of these documents? It seems I have confused myself reading different things online and would like the assistance of someone who knows better than myself. Thank you in advance!
  18. So me and my partner have been watching the Jan to Dec 2021 Filers google doc's spreadsheet like hawks this past year. With them coming close to December I just wanted to see if anybody knew of a 2022 Filers list please? The guys which have been keeping on top of the 2021 list have done an outstanding job! *Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong sub-section!*
  19. I have been checking the consular system weekly for k1 visa interview in Accra for past two months. Has anyone who received approval to schedule in the last three months been able to schedule an interview? Any ideas how long to get k1 interview?
  20. I applied for K1 visa and received case number in September 2022. Currently processing time for K1 is 15.5 months and Cr1(I-130) is 10 months. I’m thinking to get married and restart the process by filing for CR1 instead. Initially I applied for K1 thinking it would be faster, but that seems not to be the case anymore. I’d appreciate any advice you could provide me.
  21. Hello again! My now wife has been suffering from chronic vertigo and pain in her right ear, often accompanied with slight hearing loss, for a few weeks now. I want to make her an appointment with a doctor to check her out, as she's now on my workplace medical insurance as my dependent. The potential issue is, we still don't have her Green Card. We're waiting on her Adjustment of Status, but so far we only have a receipt that they've gotten it. I don't want her to get in any trouble, but I need to make sure she's okay. What do I do?
  22. I noticed that the NVC Case creation timeframe has increased drastically the past 2 weeks. Anyone know the reason why? Could it have been because of Christmas / New years week? It's been increasing slowly since November 2022. Hopefully the can reduce it to below 30 days again. Right now it's at 62 days. You can check here: https://visawhen.com/nvc Or here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/nvc-timeframes.html
  23. Hello everyone, Me and my partner filed for K1 Visa in October 2022 and never heard back. We never received our NOA1 and they never cashed in the payment, even though we have confirmation that they received our I-129F application. Now I'm planning to visit him in the States in April (using my ESTA) and he wants me to stay, get married and file for AOS. I've read that it might work but I'm also worried since we have already previously filed for K1. But since we never heard back we might not even be "in the system"? Thank you all for any advice you might have for us!!!
  24. Hello again, everyone. Last night I started thinking, and was wondering how long after I marry my Fiance, do we have to save up the money for our change of status and pay the fee? Do we have to do it within the 90 days or do we have a grace period after we are married so that we can save the money for this step?
  25. Hello, Isn't the problem at Islamabad related to a backlog, so I was curious why is it that K1 Visas seem to come by much quicker compared to IR-1/CR-1 visas (from looking at the stats)? If anyone could enlighten me it would be much appreciated. Also, does being an American by birth seem to speed up the process? Thank you!
