At this point it's more common to go through manual verification than not to go through it. I went through it twice (when I requested replacement SSN card an when I changed my name), both times I got 'approved' about 3 weeks after they started the manual verification.

I know people who got the 'you don't need to do new biometrics' letter 6 months after filing the I-751. They're so immensely backlogged that even this takes way longer than it should

About the smudged middle name, I don't think it'll be a problem. If you're that worried, just call USCIS on Monday to ask your question. That might give you more peace of mind

C90 got a reaction from RLA in AOS Interview ( from K1)- no decision provided
It's very common to not get a decision at the interview itself. It's actually more uncommon to get the decision right away.
The reason is pretty simple. Most IO's are not allowed to make the decision and have to hand it to a supervisor for the last check. In some cases they didn't finish the background check yet, so they'll have to wait for that.

Go into your interview with the expectation that you won't get a decision, it can take up to 3 months to get one (although it's usually somewhere from 1 day to 1 month)
    Congrats!

It fully depends on the state you live in. I live in PA and I got my 1 year DL without EAD, since PA allows people who can proof they have a pending AOS to get their DL.
I don't know about your state, but it should be pretty easy to google. Just check out the local DMV site, it will hold the answer to your question.

That must've been so creepy! I know a few years ago in NYC there were a lot of fake 'police officers' with badges etc. One NYC resident told me you're ALWAYS allowed to call the police station and verify that it's an actual cop by giving them the badge number. As long as you politely mention to the cop you're with you want to double check for your own safety, you're not doing anything wrong.

And yes, a few of those calls exposed that the badge numbers were not official police badge numbers and it were not actual cops. But I fully understand that when you're actually in that situation, this is not the first thing to pop in your head.

C90 got a reaction from Debzib88 in Anybody else feel slightly crazy!!
Oh man, we did K1, and our process went slightly different than the normal K1.
We actually got an email from NVC that they received our approved I-129F before we received our NOA2! (little mistake on USCIS side I guess lol)
I knew others that had the same time line as me, and once I knew their time line I was basically staring at my phone / refreshing CEAC multiple times every day 😂😂😂
Once I had my interview and got approved, I emailed the consulate after 1 week asking why my status still was on 'Ready' (yes, I was VERY impatient, don't be me lol).
So no, you're definitely not alone!

Right now we are in the AOS phase. Got my EAD/AP one month ago and still waiting for my GC interview (what could take at least another year or so)

Although you're doing CR1/IR1, I thought sharing my craziness would give you a peace of mind lol. Hang in there, before you know you'll land your butt on that plane seat off to the USA!

There's a step by step guide on here, https://www.visajourney.com/content/751guide. It holds a lot of info. Besides the guide, use the USCIS instructions on their website. VJ is a guideline, USCIS instructions are leading.

We didn't provide any chat logs, since it's in no way proof of meeting in the last 2 years.

We filed in 2017, included 7 pics of us together/with friends/with family, the plane tickets/hotel bookings of when we visited each other and the passport stamps of visiting each other/our travels together through Europe. No RFE and visa got approved in 2018. The only 'extra' evidence the IO wanted to see at the interview were pics from after filing, and that was mostly cause I was basically waving them in the IO's face lol.

If you include way to much evidence, the chances are that they'll throw out important documents (cause I read that they will throw out stuff they don't need like 10k pages of chat logs lol) what can lead to RF(I)E's, so better not to overload, especially since you're from a not high fraud country. Including chat logs is fine (although again, no evidence of meeting), but just include 1 or 2 pages with a few sentences of your chats on different days/years.

I-485 depends on local office. Some people have their GC within 3 months, other people are waiting 24+ months already for their interview and still nothing

OP,  you can check the processing times for your local office via https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/. It's an indication. For my office (Philadelphia) it's anywhere between 13,5-22 months, with some people getting their interview after 11-12 months, where others wait a little longer.

Nothing. They just want evidence that you met within the last 2 years.

When my now husband and I filed K1 we didn't even have a date or any arrangements for a wedding. The only requirement is that you get married within 90 days, how or where they don't care about.

At my K1 interview or POE they never asked for it, and we ended up doing a self uniting marriage about 3 weeks after I arrived with a party 3 weeks later.

C90 got a reaction from Vee_bay_bee in AP/EAD Como RFE
There's no standard time for sending an RFE. I got an RFIE for I-485 about 2 weeks after filing, but I saw that someone got an RFE for their I-765 a few days ago, while their case is already pending like 5+ months. So sometimes you get it right after filing (RFIE or RFE), sometimes it takes a while and sometimes you just don't get one at all.

Also, RF(I)E is not really something to worry about. Usually it's a small piece of information they're missing and it's usually pretty easy to respond to.

December should be enough time, but for this process you should keep the same rule as for K1: Do not plan any travel until you have your AP/GC in hand

C90 reacted to USS_Voyager in K1: Employment Authorization
No, it is not up to you or the employer. It's a matter of law. You have to have work authorization in the US in order to work. While your green card is in process, you're only allowed to stay in the US, not work. The work authorization requires another form which is the I-765 for EAD, which takes 6-10 months as mentioned. That's why I mentioned the CR1 route, which give you the green card and work authorization right away after you come.

Please do not work unauthorized, even if the company doesn't ask you for your proof of employment authorization after you enter the US. Doing so will land both you and the employer in troubles. When you work, there is always records and taxes withheld and if USCIS discovers you work unauthorized, they can deny your AOS. If the employer is found employing a person without work authorization, they can be fined some hefty amount and sanctioned. It is not worth it.

I'm here to give update of my posting before. So the DSS agent turn out has NOTHING to do with our case and also with my fiance's friend. The agent just came for asked my friend's dad because there's illegal immigrant lived in his apartment. Just silly because the time was so perfect 😅😂😂

Also our K1 visa case is doing well with status "In Transit" now. God willing I'll have my interview soon.
    Wish me luck 🙏

C90 got a reaction from Cryssiekins in Ridiculous waiting time for an EAD renewal - about to lose job
Why would it be a loophole? Your EAD is going to expire, the extension is going to expire, so what are you supposed to do? Just sit and wait? Renewals are designed to avoid just that, so it seems pretty logical that you can legally file another renewal in your situation. But like I said, double check with USCIS Tier2

Filed AOS in September 2018, have been ready for interview since October 2018, so we still have a good wait in front of us!

Any Philly filers that filed in 2017/2018, please chime in so we can get an idea of the processing times (besides the processing times chart on VJ) and for some Philly support.

You mentioned you're almost done with the K1 package, so you still have to file? In that case it can take another 9+ months before he even has his interview. So by that time you have way more evidence of making money by driving for Lyft/
Also, you're planning on getting 2 jobs, so you can show pay stubs for that by then (you have to show at least 6 months of pay stubs for them to be accepted at the interview as steady income)

Please fill out your timeline, since some answers depend on the country where your fiancé is from.

Yes, you can fill out a new K1 application. No attorney needed, it's pretty DYI if you have a straight forward case (previous filing is still pretty straightforward) An attorney will only fill out the forms for you and charge you a buttload of money.

Only met once depends completely on the country, how long ago it was, if there's an age difference etc. In general, the more face to face time you had the better.
If your fiancé is from, lets say, Nigeria then 1 time meeting is almost a guaranteed denial. Please let us know the situation so this question can be answered more accurate.

C90 got a reaction from Ate in When is it needed?
1: I-129F needs evidence of meeting in the last 2 years. That said, it can't hurt to put a little evidence of ongoing relationship in there, just don't go overboard with it. We sent 7 pics, plane tickets/hotel bookings and passport stamps from visiting each other/trips through Europe together, that's it. This was in 2017 and we got approved without RFE.
Make sure you take evidence of ongoing relationship to the interview (again, don't go overboard with it. No officer wants to go trough 10+ pics, chat logs etc, they just wanna see your relationship is genuine)

2 through 5: interview. You don't need to send all passport pages of the beneficiaries passport at any point and you only need all the pages of the USC's passport if you don't send a birth certificate. That said, we only sent my husbands (then fiancé) biometric page and pages with passport stamps and didn't get an RFE.

Photo's on normal paper are fine. And please read the K1 - AOS - ROC guide to educate yourself more on this process and the processes that are to come after K1 is approved.
