Hey guys,

I'm filing for K1 visa as petitioner for my fiance and we are brainstorming honeymoon ideas. Has anyone had any experience or know whether someone with a K1 visa can go on a cruise after getting married to petitioner in USA? I know we would file for green card shortly after getting married but since cruises don't really go through immigration, is it ok for K1 visa holders to go on cruises while waiting for green card? thank you all so much for any help 😃

Mod hat off

Cruise are off limits. They will want to see a valid visa for reentry even if you are sticking to a closed loop cruise.

Cruise passengers absolutely go through a border inspection.  If a k1 goes on a cruise without advance parole then plan on not being allowed back in

YMMV

I appreciate all the answers so far. I read on USCIS website that cruises to ports that are US territories (US Virgin Islands, Guam Puerto Rico, etc) do not need an advance parole. So does that mean my fiance and I can fly domestic within US territories with K1 visa? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated as we are brainstorming honeymoon options 😃

For example, going on the passenger ferry direct route between Fajardo, Puerto Rico and Charlotte Amalie, US Virgin Islands without AP is allowed: https://www.uscis.gov/archive/blog/2014/05/five-questions-about-advance-parole_9 "advance parole would not be needed if you travel directly between parts of the United States, which includes Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Swains Island and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), without entering a foreign port or place."

It costs $125 round trip per passenger: https://virginislandsthisweek.com/st-thomas/st-thomas-land-activities/ferry-schedules/#puerto-rico

I would strike cruises off that list for a few years.......in fact, I would delay the honeymoon travel for at least a year.

You can fly domestic in us territories but if you go other country then he can not enter usa again, until grt the right visa.

just relax about go out usa and fly domestic, in my case my fiance then , we got merried and we went to Las vegas for honeymoon .

then when i got my green card we went in a cruise one year after we got merried.

You can fly domestically including the territories like PR. However be aware if you want to honeymoon not in the continental US that your flight is direct with no layovers in another country.

Also take into consideration if anything happens which is out of your control e.g plane/ship redirecting in case of emergency to a different country your husband won't be allowed back to the USA. It doesn't matter that it was not your fault that you ended up out of the country.

If an exotic honeymoon immediately after the wedding is important you you, the K-1 is the wrong choice. If you are OK with a truly domestic honeymoon or with postponing your dream honeymoon until several months after the ceremony, then plough on with the K-1 (assuming you are also OK with its myriad other disadvantages).

NCL’s Pride of America would be your best choice for a cruise as it sails only in Hawaii. Cruises that sail around the Caribbean, evrn if they only call at US territories such as USVI or PR, are risky as they could wind up having to call at a non-US territory on the event of a storm, a medical emergency, a mechanical fault, etc. Look on a map how close St Thomas is to the BVI or how close PR is to the Dominican Republic - in an emergency if an overseas port is closer the shop will head there. The fact that there are passengers on board who won’t be able to return to the US from there will be of no concern whatsoever at that time.
