Seems she is unlikely to have an EAD add her to yours.

Affordable? I don't think there is health insurance that could be called ''affordable''.

 

The most basic way is to add the spouse to whatever insurance you have, either privately or via an employer plan.

The next common is to use the exchanges.

Depends on how much coverage you want.  A high deductible,  minimum essential plan was cheaper through ACA.  My employer plans was an overall better plan but was more expensive

Same way you would get insurance (barring the use of most public benefits for which she won't be eligible for immediately) - employer-based, healthcare exchange, and private.

Employers seems to be the cheapest by far. My health insurance started to charge $30 for tabacco users, smoking just got very expensive.

 

Being a healthy individual is perhaps the cheapest.

that's so unfortunate, life is unfair and true having health insurance is better than nothing. even when your healthy.

Haha. This is true. But I will add that being healthy and unconcerned is even cheaper. I spent the first half of my 20's uninsured. I wouldn't even dare do that now.

I'm at that age now where friends ad family close to me are having small accidents that change their physical capabilities.

Friend broke ankle while jogging and now walks with a limp.

Another friend sprained knee and now wears a brace full time.

Cousin sprained back moving furniture in new home and now can't sleep in certain positions.

 

And we aren't even THAT old.

Yup.  Everyone is healthy, until they are not.  I have seen young triathletes suddenly receive a dx that puts them in the fight of their lives.

 

No one can afford to not have insurance. ❤️

Not having an SSN or not providing an SSN is not a barrier to obtaining or holding health insurance by law.
