denied entry to USA on a K1 visa

The very rare occasions when I make long hard contemplation about where my life is going, pretty much all happen on long inter-continental flights (especially w/o internet access). Just saying.

As numerous people before me have stated, it's a very dumb answer. A better answer would have been "Yes, however we don't have a solid date yet due to planning reasons, but we intend to do it within the allowable 90 days.". That was my reason to the CBP officer and he allowed me through. With that said, it sounded like he was trying to joke around with the CBP officer, which you should never do.

 

If his K-1 visa wasn't invalidated right there on the spot, maybe he can try again, but they'll also see his previous denial and will need to explain himself.

Agree'd. We hadn't had a set date, just knew the location. So my husband said that he understood that we get married within 90 days of coming in and he was good to go. 

If this was a joke from the OP's fiance, he learned the hard way that immigration is a serious matter. At the same time, he learned too late as they most likely typed into the system his response and their feelings on it, which are going to follow him everywhere.

Wow! I am from Peru and as soon as I got my k1 visa, I read about possible interviews at POE. When I got there (my husband was allowed to be next to me in Visitors line) I was very nervous, but at least I knew what to say and what to avoid. They only asked if I was going to get married, I said yes, and they let me go. 

 

OP, I am sorry you had to experience the frustration. Hope you can make it work after this...

but seriously, how could somebody honestly mess up with such an easy answer! If you are interested in something, you read about it to make everything perfect. I cant believe he thought he could joke with immigration officers.

Also, people from certain countries will get asked less countries when coming on a K1 or any visa for that reason!  so you cant compare coming from canada/uk/NZ/aus because it is a much MUCH easier process!! so people saying they got asked less questions - yes, you are probably from a low fraud country. 

 

secondly, going thru the border is a serious matter!  especially with everything happening in this day and age...why would ANYONE joke around???

So true. As I am reading this first thing comes to mind is people need to realize CO's at interview write notes. You know that brown envelope we can't open. Maybe the CO wrote "Ask him if they are getting married". Everyone gets different questions.

 

I don't think for a minute he was joking at all. Out of the mouth speaks the true desires of our heart.  So sorry OP.

I came here without wedding date. But surely I intended to marry my fiancé ( now husband ). I didn't practice my interview. Being honest is still the best policy. The CBP officer asked if I have a wedding date. I said no but we will try to do  a court house wedding as soon as possible and then set a date for a ceremony. Then he asked if I was excited about this wedding. And I said : YES! without hesitation. And he let me through. 

I signed my intent to marry letter so why would I say ' maybe ' to the CBP officer? Why spent all that money, time and energy for a "maybe" ?

Are you sure this actually happened? You may want to check that he isn't really in the states using that k1 as a means to and end to get here and just lied to you about what happened....

While this is a bit of a fringe possibility...

 

Let's assume this was the case. Now what? OP can't do anything about it, and he cannot marry anybody else and stay legally in the US under a K-1 visa. Either way, there's nothing actionable for the OP.

Not too fringe. I only say it because someone in the MENA sub forum had that exact thing happen years ago.

I do not know how fringe it is, seen it on VJ quite a few times, I doubt it is that common.
