For everyone set to submit an I-751 this month, I've created this thread so that we can share our journey through this process. I'll be submitting next week!

We mailed ours on August 1st to Carol Stream, IL.  We did get a text with the receipt number of 8/8 and we believe it will go to the Vermont Service Center.  This is what we included:

  • A certified true copy of our marriage certificate
  • Copies of our jointly-filed tax statements for the previous three years (2019, 2020, and 2021)
  • Copies of statements from our joint checking account for December 2018 to present.
  • Copies of my dental and health insurance showing Francisco as a dependent.
  • Copies of my 401k and life insurance showing Francisco as a beneficiary.
  • Copy of Francisco’s retirement plan listing me as a beneficiary.
  • Copy of the insurances for our car and home with both of our names listed.
  • Copy of our electricity bill, showing both of our names and our home address.
  • Copy of Francisco’s driver’s license showing the address that we reside at together.
  • The obituary of my brother and his brother-in-law Christopher, listing us as relatives. He passed away in October, 2021.
  • Travel bookings showing our names on them.
  • Letters or invitation envelopes showing our home address and addressed to both of us.
  • Photographs from our wedding on January 5, 2019 at the Museum of Science in Boston.
  • Photographs from January 2019 through July 2022 showing us together in our travels, celebrating holidays, and enjoying time with friends and family.
  • Facebook posts showing dates and times of us together traveling and enjoying time with friends.
  • Six sworn, notarized letters by our friends and relatives, attesting to our relationship and marriage.

Wow your package looks beautifully assembled! It's also way bigger than mine, I hope I sent enough!

Thank you. I'm sure you're fine. I opted to send all bank statements, which is what made it so large. Many folks opt to send quarterly statements which cuts down on the paper.

Amazing! I know USCIS prefers ACCO fasteners, but it feels weird punching holes in the documents (you need to do that in order to use those, correct?).

Yeah you have to use a two-hole punch at the top, but USCIS does that anyway with the hard copies after they scan the docs in.

Yea I sent all 3 years of tax return transcripts, and then quarterly statements of all shared accounts, since for the most part it's literally the same info every time and it's not like I'm adding and removing my husband from the accounts every couple months. It's always so interesting to see what each couple chooses to send based on the proof they have available!

FYI, when I created this thread, I didn't notice that there was already a thread for August 2022 (it got created mid-July and I missed it while browsing/searching for recently created August threads). I think it would be better to consolidate all discussion on the other thread since it was created first and has a lot more activity on it and thus everyone will likely get more support over there.

I just send my I-751 on August 6th. Almost completely forgot about it. USPS delivered the package at the Phoenix lockbox on August 8th. Now I am waiting on my extension letter. Super nervous because my GC expires on the 18th so hopefully my extension arrives by then.

Most people get the extension letter within 2 weeks, so you'll likely receive it either before the 18th or not long after. No need to worry.

@Elllena do you mean it expires 18th of August? I am wondering why you sent the package late? Also was wondering what document did you send?

They didn't file late, because they filed before their green card expired.

I did not realize extension letters could come out that quickly! I’ve seen some folks waiting a few weeks/about a month just to get checks cashed or a text message with receipt number.

That does happen to some people but I don't think it is the norm. We got text/email notifications 3 days after our package was mailed, and the NOA/extension letter came in the mail after exactly 1 week.

Hopefully you will get a fast response as well. Are you concerned about renewing your license or something like that? Many states have a grace period where you can still drive legally with an expired license. In my state, it's 60 days.

Other than that, your green card is just proof of your status. You are still an LPR, allowed to work, etc. It's not a big deal if you have an expired green card or a week for two.

That’s awesome!! Glad to hear it! Thank you :)

Luckily my DL only expires in 2028 so I don’t really have any serious concerns. My only “rush” in receiving an extension letter is to start planning trips abroad with my family.
