Afghanistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi issued a statement in English on Twitter on Friday morning urging a resolution to the crisis through "dialogue and peaceful means."

 

"The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and expresses concern about real possibility of civilian casualties," the statement said.

Latest baffling move by Zelensky: he calls on Turkey (a NATO country) to close the Dardanelles and Bosphorus straits. Then Zelensky tweets and claims Turkey agreed despite officials in Turkey saying they never did??? Turkey is still officially denying that they agreed to close the straights but everyone on Twitter and social media is celebrating and praising Turkey for it's support for Ukraine.

If “we” means the USA, then nor should we.  Europe has the resources to accommodate any Ukrainian refugees from the invasion.  
 

 Likewise,  Russia’s allies, China,  India, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, have the resources to accommodate any Russian refugees from Ukraine’s counter attack.

Agreed.  Sanctions that degrade or interrupt energy trade between the EU and Russia should be on the table and the USA should be ramping up fossil fuel production to let the EU buy from the USA.

It isn’t clear that it is unwinnable   When the USA invaded Iraq, it competed the task in 42 days and lost under 200.  Russia has lost at least 10 times as many by day 3, and apparently is now dealing with a counter attack.

 

It is perhaps comparable to the 1812 invasion of Canada, another unwinnable war for invaded party,

It’s sad of course but complete destruction has been the European way for centuries.  My observation is that Europe is quick to rebuild.  
 

It’s up to Europe to stand up to this.  If it doesn’t, and if Russian tanks roll to the borders of France (presumably no further unless Macron assures Putin that he won’t launch nukes at Russia) that’s Europe’s problem.

If it's up to Europe to stand up to this, then why are we still arming Ukraine? Also, how can Europe stand up to Russia? I'm really curious what that solution is. How would Russia roll tanks past a bunch of NATO countries exactly, are they just going to abandon Article 5? I'm not really following this train of thought. You can't have NATO exist and then act like a war breaking out in Europe won't immediately involve NATO, which indirectly or directly will automatically rope the US into the fold. Either disband NATO and the US says Europe is no longer its problem or have NATO exist and Europe is the US's problem.

 

Russian tanks will not roll to France, you're quite mistaken as to the cause of the invasion and what Russia's scope of interest is. I recommend watching the video I posted above which makes everything crystal clear. There's no secret plan that isn't known, it's all been laid out on the table very clearly now. In fact, my point was the US supposedly had pitch perfect intelligence about this the entire time. If that was the case, what exactly was our plan? Because it seems to me like the plan is "let's continue arming Ukraine but not get directly involved because Russia has nukes." So, Ukraine being backed with no nukes at all (in fact, NATO and the US have specifically said multiple times they won't actually defend it) goes against a nuclear power, but not just a nuclear power, the country with the largest arsenal and most powerful nukes on Earth. This is a plan the US and Europe considers to be sound? It's madness.

 

Anyone who thinks nukes aren't real or won't be dropped are living in dreamland. The world has never been closer to a nuclear war than right now and all the US can do is send weapons??? Where is the diplomacy and cool headed realpolitik of the Cold War?  I'm absolutely astonished how people seem to have forgotten the entire legacy of the Cold War (which saved the world multiple times from blowing up thanks to diplomacy) and we're just jumping into arming countries to fight against nuclear powers and we're sitting back and not even remotely attempting diplomacy. This is a global embarrassment and Europe is doing nothing at all to help either, despite that it's happening right in their backyard. Germany, who appeared to be the sane one in the room before, is now also arming Ukraine.

My observation is that after wars in Europe, borders change. If nuclear war happens, then there won't be a Europe to rebuild.
