Interview Scheduled - less than 2 years??

Hello,

 

After almost two years (600 days to be exact) we FINALLY got a notice that our AOS interview was scheduled!!!! We live in Seattle so this was expected. However, our 2 year anniversary is on December 7th. We waited this long, we don’t want our interview to be on December 3 or 4 and then have to do the ROC. If the interview is before December 7, should we ask to reschedule? We have no idea how long we’d have to wait for a new date in Seattle.

I would go to the interview as scheduled.....and ask the officer to delay the approval a few days if needed.

You have waited almost 2 years for an interview and there is even a thought of rescheduling?

Go to the interview, and call it an anniversary gift. 

Anyway, glad you were able to even get an interview scheduled.

Not critical at all - you’re making me wake up and see the positive!! You’re right, hopefully since we will be just a few days off from our 2nd anniversary the officer can delay our approval a few days or just opt to give us the 10 year GC regardless.

My advice is to reschedule the interview. If the interview is before your 2nd anniversary and the IO approved it that day, you have to go through the hassle of ROC and you don't want to repeat such extended processing times and so many uncertainties. There could be a slim chance if you request the IO could keep it on hold and approve it after your anniversary, but what's the chance? You are putting ur luck on someone's action with very slim chance.

 

If you reschedule, it could get pushed by several months but id there anything to lose? By rescheduling, you are ensuring ROC elimination and keeping your mind at peace for next 3 years.

It's called smart planning. If rescheduling keeps your mind at peace for next 3 years or more after getting GC, why not.

It is up to you, but I would reschedule to eliminate the hassle and cost of ROC. Rescheduling isn't a big deal. My husband and I rescheduled our AOS interview because we were on vacation visiting his home country. We were rescheduled for a date three weeks later, although this was pre-covid so the wait time could be different now.

I personally wouldn’t reschedule. You’ve waited almost two years, you’re almost there! If you reschedule it could be very long till you get a new date. What you could do is go for the interview and ask for a delayed approval. 
Worst case scenario you don’t get a delayed interview and you have to ROC. I’m preparing my own ROC and it’s not that hard if you keep collecting evidence as soon as you’re done with AOS. I even had an envelope called “ROC evidence” where I have been collecting stuff. Do it that way and it’s not hard!

Scenario 1 (attending the interview as scheduled) - you are getting your GC faster.

Scenario 2 (rescheduling) - you are getting an unconditional GC, saving money, saving yourself a hassle of another 1+ year wait, collecting documents, attending a potential second interview.

 

To me - the answer is obvious. Reschedule and get a 10-year GC. You've waited for 2 years, what's another couple of months (if that)?

I hope, when you get the notice in the mail, the interview date will not be before your two-year anniversary.

Thank you all for your inputs! The only reason rescheduling isn’t an obvious decision for us is because we are in Seattle, and the Seattle field office is an abyss with no clear idea of how long it would take for a new interview date. It would not be as fast as most other field offices.

Then don’t risk it. Go, and ask for a delayed approval.
