Thanks.

So yeah, printing issues seem to have been an issue in recent months. I've seen quite a few reports of people still waiting for them.

That said, the title is a bit misleading. While some people may be missing actual documents and technically be "undocumented" as a result, they are not being deported or are subject to deportation. It's a documentation issue.

The requirement to carry the green card has not actually been enforced in any case I can think of or find offhand. This goes doubly for somebody who isn't carrying it because they haven't received it. So that part just seems a bit misleading..."undocumented" tends to have a different meaning to most people.

That's not to say there isn't harm...the lack of a valid EAD or green card can be a hurdle for an I-9 (to work), or a lack of a green card to travel. So it's not harmless either.

The other thing I would say is nothing there implies this is being done intentionally. It sounds like their well-discussed financial issues are the cause of the delays, not an attempt to cause harm.

As bad as this is, the underlying funding issue is the real killer. USCIS may furlough up to 70% of their employees if they don't get a loan from Congress. If that happens, non-emergency processing will likely come to a near halt.

@geowrian Happens to me all the time.  Just delete your browser history. I think you get certain number of free reads after which you hit a pay-wall. However, I've come to learn that clearing my history, which bears previous reads/ history of WSJ, NYT etc, cheats their system and I get to read free again.

@J/G interesting article. One a funny note, my receipt notice came on fainted ink. I could barely read the top 1/4 of the notice. I looked at it and I was like "Wow. Really. After all the money I paid?" Atleast I'm young and still have good vision. Hahah

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Thanks! I swore they closed that hole a while ago, but I confirmed that clearing the cookies for that website works. I have my browser set to never persist cookies on that site now. :)

This is so on point. The financial issue USCIS is facing is to blame here. With a proposed 70% furlough of workers, will be surprised if USCIS does anything in the time being. My only prayer at this time is for congress to approve funding for these workers, they have family too. It's hard as it is for workers with the pandemic and now have to reduced capacity...... God help us all.

My wife's notice for her rescheduled citizenship interview was similar to your receipt, very faint ink at the top. I figured they're trying to stretch their funds as much as possible.

So do we need to call our congressman or senator to get additional funding for USCIS?

this seems to be a financial issue that can be fixed if congress wants to.

Certainly won't hurt. And yes, it can be fixed by Congress if it chooses to do so (and if Trump weren't to veto such a bill).

Some 50,000 green cards and 75,000 other employment authorization documents promised to immigrants haven’t been printed, USCIS said in a statement. The agency said it had planned to escalate printing but that it “cannot speculate on future projections of processing times.” In the event of furloughs — which the agency has threatened if it does not get a $1.2 billion loan from Congress — “all agency operations will be affected.”
