Love this asking for a friend questions.

It will take a long time to get a new one and give or take $500ish dollars.

After she filed and paid for replacement she might try her luck to get a stamp in her passport as proof of status so she could travel.

I am more interested why they cut the card in two?

New card is needed. File the I-90 and pay up.

If travel is needed sooner, once the I-90 is filed and you receive notice, schedule an appointment with a USCIS field office (probably need to call) to get an I-551 stamp to act as a green card for 1 year. This works just like a physical green card, including for work and travel purposes.

if he is already abroad, without being able to get to the US, he needs a boarding foil. Pay up again.

My friend is male, for that i said his wife.

He lives in Miami, he and her wife have problems, they live apart now,  in that time they were living together and having a lot of problems, she was cheating on him and she wanted he moved back to his country, all the time she was threating him with deportation and one day she cut his green card and his ss card.

Now they are living separate , and he wants travel on december to Dominican Republic, i advised him that he needs a new card to travel.

But he insist that all information from the card is clear if he put the tow pieces together with tape.

I told him that it isnt work like that with immigration documents

Hopefully he got a police report, and to make sure she pays the replacement fee.

It's not about it being "readable". It needs to be intact. It should be scannable. It's possible to work as-is to get to the border, but he would be very lucky to find an airline employee willing to accept it to even board the flight. And no way to know if they will until he's at the airport checking into his flight.

It's by far not worth the risk....getting a boarding foil is very expensive for a one-use document to board a plane, takes time (and a visit to the US embassy/consulate), etc.

Tell your friend if that's all the GC is worth to them, why even bother trying to replace it. After months of struggle and waiting  on the K1 process this is what "she" does!

His wife also cut up the Social security card?

Your friend needs to file a police report and get a restraining order.

If she has destroyed such documents who knows what else she can do.

Your friend should also request a new social security number.

Ain't love grand? He definitely can't travel with a taped green card. But I'm sure he wouldn't be the first to try)))))

Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.

Yes, once the cutting starts who knows where it will stop)))))

I mean she also got his SS card, meaning she has access to his SSN. I don't know, I rather be overzealous than have to go through an identity fraud process.

I agree with others not worth the risk. Tell him to have it replaced.
