Nigeria had a refusal rate of 57.47% for B visas in 2018.

https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Statistics/Non-Immigrant-Statistics/RefusalRates/FY18.pdf

Was this your exact wording during the interview: "I am going to the US for an Offshore technology Conference" ?

Because if so, it sounds extremely vague. If you have a specific conference to attend, why not state the name of the conference, the place, and the exact to and from dates? Just saying "I'm going to the US for (some conference)" sounds extremely unconvincing. Even tourists are expected to mention their planned cities/states and dates of travel when they apply. You need to be specific and give details....especially about the date you plan to leave.

Most people that I know who've successfully received B visas were always very clear about the exact place and exact dates of their travel during the in interview.

Not about running away

this area is like any other construction job

one company looses a contract because another outbids the next phase of the job

oil drilling is all about bidding contracts and winning and being able to adjust to new

leaving one job to go to another as a new company owns the contract

and it is always good to keep a resume online

nigerian oil now is the top payer

2nd biggest is Chevron Nigeria

3rd is Shell Nigeria

i only suggested work visa as there is a shortest of people in the US with both IT and oil field experience

only a suggestion

and there is nothing at the moment for Chile

but Brazil has a conference in October

I've had to travel to several conferences for my profession and missed several for a variety of reasons but the phrases I'm reading and persistence at stressing adds up to more than  the sum of a missed conference opportunity.

I'm not trying to be negative only  suggesting you  look at it from the CO's point of view.  Firstly the CO has interviewed hundreds if not thousands of your fellow citizens and is well practiced.  Little things are likely more important than you realize.  Like an attitude about  "Yes, but he did not demand documentation. No "Let me see a letter from your Office or so..".  The expectation of being allowed to present a 'soup to nuts' case may have come across poorly.  Sometimes a plan is so water tight and with so much corroboration it simply sounds contrived, fake.

I've had to forego a few  conferences for a variety of reasons but I've  never gone online to ask for help about it, or go to  some future conference, is that it?

You see what I mean?  Sometimes too much info sounds fake.  The CO's are good at what they do.

If there is a Conference next year perhaps try again? Gte in some more travel to other Conferences in the mean time.

Especially if the conference rotates to another country where you are eligible for a visa. That would demonstrate more interest in your career and less about the geography.

I remember another Poster mentioning that around the Consulate there are businesses that can produce pretty much any document you want, for a fee.

There is a UK Border Force YouTube Video series that basically talked about the British High Commission for Nigeria having people hanging outside selling blank birth certificates, marriage certificates etc...anything you want printed you can get. Tragic in so many ways, but that's desperation.

Yup.  And unfortunately that level of deception and fraud has ruined things for those who are honest.

I live in Houston where this conference has been hosted before and it’s literally called Offshore Technology Conference. Not that the officer would know that. Just saying it is specific.

Yes LOL.this is the one.

The Diplomat going to work in a boat was amazing

9' 30" for anybody watching and the next few minutes covers the crux.

Now the US does not do things the same way as the UK but comes across the same issues.
