OP,  The US is not that different from Canada.  US immigration rules may change in the future; no one can predict what they will become with any certainty. Until then, either get more education, or expend your efforts being happy where you are.

TN visa?

The obvious option

OP, this is the best advice you have received so far.  Education is the key, the more advanced, in fields that are in high demand, the better your opportunities to live in the US will be.  Do more research on this and if you are serious about it you will go back to school if you need to, the Canadian educational system is every bit as good as that in the US, trust me, I have lived 30 years in each country and have degrees from both Canadian and US universities, and have worked in higher education for most of my career. It sounds like from both of your posts that you are in a place with your girlfriend in Alabama where you're not ready to get engaged or married but you want to live close to each other so that you can date normally, without the challenges of a long-distance relationship.  I can relate to this also, as I have been in a long-distance relationship with a Brazilian and we would have gladly lived in the same city at first, to date for years, maybe live together to try things out, before making the big commitment of engagement and marriage.  But unfortunately, when you fall in love across international borders, you have to face the reality that in most cases, that won't work.  So you either have to make the commitment and apply for a K-1 or marry and apply for CR-1, or end the relationship, move on with your life, and make the best of things where you live now.  Maybe there is someone you can meet close to where you live.  Canada is a pretty awesome country, with many of the advantages of a US style culture and economy but without some of the problems.  Take advantage of what you have and be happy.  Good luck!

You're best bet is probably a TN visa as suggested earlier.

I mean, yes, you can try for a student visa....but you may be hard-pressed getting approved for one being Canadian....comes into question what sort of program in the US is not comparable to a program already available to you in Canada.

He's Canadian. English should be his first language....  I guess unless he's from Quebec, but still, people speak English there too.

I was about to say the same thing... Not sure if that works in this case.

From what I gather, between this thread and OP's original thread from 2017, there is a LOT of research you have not yet done - particularly since last posting over a year ago - for someone who seems so adamant on immigrating to the US. It sounds like you are still looking for a way to come here to live with your girlfriend without taking the marriage route.

I don't know what could work, being you're Canadian, other than getting lucky with a US based company hiring you (which isn't as easy as it may sound), or finding something to go to school for in the states. You said in your old thread that you were early or mid-20s - have you considered university?

Håll ut, y'all.

Unless you have some type of very advanced, specialized degree, the chances of getting sponsored for a wok visa are zero. By law, US employers have to hire US citizens. Unless and until they cannot find a US citizen who is qualified for said job, they cannot even consider hiring someone from a foreign country.

Perhaps the OP is a genius and has a special skill. If so, he can go for the O-1. Here is a recent article on the O-1 process from a fellow Canadian!

OP, previous posters have already pointed out the immigration options that are available to you.  Now it may or may not have been mentioned in your other thread, but I want to highlight that if you immigrate to the US, you will likely lose any Canadian healthcare benefits you are currently eligible for.  Healthcare costs in the US can be ridiculously expensive and giving up their healthcare benefits is one of the biggest sacrifices Canadian immigrants write about here on VJ.  I hope you've seriously considered that, as you seem to be so intent on leaving Canada.  I wish you well on your journey.

I agree with Goldenkoi91.  You can probably get a student visa & start that way.  Our education is considered on a higher level than most countries.  There are many of us who have degrees & some with masters & still looking for a job.  People from all over the world want to come here just to live & get away from their own country.  The legal system doesn't allow people to just come here with no purpose.  You need to be sponsored by someone or employer, unless you come claiming asylum.  I wish you the best in what you are trying to accomplish.

"Claiming asylum from Canada"....on the grounds of not being able to order a decent burger? The horror!

Well, not entirely true. There's an L1 visa for intra-company transferee. But again, I suspect those are also hard to come by and fierce competition every time there is a spot open.

And it would entirely depend on the type of skill set involved.

"Getting a student visa" also means having the funds required for foreign tuition.

The problem is that high tech companies here in the US do not struggle to find American workers to fill the positions that you are qualified for...
