They should be able to detect it in the blood. My fiancee in Philippines did not have to show privates. But some people there do get their bums checked, for hemorrhoids, etc I am told, but that is it. Yes, true, country specific I am sure.

I assume that part of the exam, visually checking the genitalia, was a requirement when the US wasn't allowing same-sex relationships for immigration purposes. They do that now and as a result, most immigration medical exams around the world don't seem to include that part of the exam anymore. It seems to be the UK and a few other countries still doing it. Honestly I'm shocked people are so up in arms about this. They are doctors... It's not like you are required to show the TSA agent on POE.

They did check mine when I had my medical done in the US last year. It's only external check and super quick (like 5 seconds) without physical contact.

If the thought of a doctor looking at your nethers for immigration upsets you, you are going to hate the medical system in the US. Here all Doctors outside of the Emergency Room are alotted the right to refuse service to anyone, and many Doctors have been known to refuse care to a woman between 21 at 55 who has not had a recent pelvic exam, and refuses to have one with them. (Cases of a woman going to her doctor with chest pain, or a headache and being denied service because their last pelvic was 3 years ago, and they did not want one at that time have been reported)

They just took some blood

Asked a bunch of health related questions (smoking, drugs, surgery etc)

Had to get my shirt off (bra still on) and breath in while checking my lungs and such..

Height, weight,

And done...

It really was nothing in the Netherlands, but I can imagine the reason to do the checks

You can opt out but you probably won't be getting a visa since that part is usually handled in the foreign country. You can argue about the invasion of privacy when you are here but not when you dealing with a consulate abroad.

Appears to be mainly the UK. Funny, I was just 5 minutes ago reading up (again) on our medical examination (looking to see if they need records of any surgeries) and I saw this post, which the heading made me laugh btw, for good reasons I may add. The UK has one medical practice that does visa examinations and you can access their website, do you know yours and can you get on to their website to find out? If there's a reason why you don't want to be checked down below maybe you should discuss it with them or better with your own doctor prior to your exam?

As I recall they checked mine. Was a lady doctor (I'm a male). Didn't bother me - they are doctors, they see these things all the time.

Fortunately my privates were intact and I passed the medical.
