How Would a Government Shutdown Affect Immigration Cases?--Merged With many many others

My embassy scheduled an interview with my wife in Bangkok on Monday, Sept. 30 at 7:00 am. Upon the successful completion of the interview my wife would be given a visa to America which would be valid for six months. The processing time, however, is two or three days which would bring us into October. What role, if any, would a government shutdown have on the interview and visa processing?

USCIS scheduled an interview with my wife this coming Monday in Bangkok for her IR1 visa. The interview was scheduled last month after they received the I-130 package. Is it safe to assume that my wife and I are in limbo if the government shuts down?

It seems as though if they have the funds, they will remain operational.

"C. Consular Operations Domestically and Overseas: Consular operations domestically and overseas will remain 100% operational as long as there are sufficient fees to support operations. However, if a passport agency is located in a government building affected by a lapse in appropriations, the facility may become unsupported. The continuance of consular operations in such instances will be treated on a case-by-case basis by the Under Secretary for Management."

I did ask him. And I asked him again today. He said it probably happened but he could not recall when since he always overseas back then. He's been in the military for 23 years and probably he could not remember because he doesn't care about politics. The reason why he speaks up because I asked him. So blame on me for the mistake.

Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not blaming for any mistake. I just wanted to point out that the government has shut down in the past so it could very easily happen again.

They actually shut down twice at the end of 1995, once in November for 5 days and once in December for 15 days. I was in the Marine Corps at the time and we didn't see any delay in our pay. We just assumed that the government wanted to have a longer holiday at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Yes, he mentioned about delay paycheck if it was happened but he said never had that occur for his paycheck. So, probably that's why he could not remember.

Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas of what will be happening if/when the government shuts down here in the US? Will this literally leave all of us here and our partners around the world hanging? Or will there be specific areas affected more than others? Like will USCIS take more of a hit than DOS? Or the reverse? I did some googling and didn't find anything concrete... as I have no faith left in our government and fear this shutdown will be inevitable I would appreciate any thoughts those of you may have out there, much thanks!

Everyone's cases will essentially be put on pause. It sounds worse than it actually is, the longest one in history has been 3 weeks. So I suppose theoretically everyone's cases could be pushed back that far if it were to go on that long. If it gives you hope, a shut down would also include food inspectors and without them, meat and other goods couldn't reach the supermarket and the food supply would stop too. Since that's not likely to go over very well I don't see a shut down going on too long.

Does anyone know how a government shutdown on Tuesday, if it happens, will affect USCIS? I have read somewhere that USCIS is self funded from the fees we all pay but I am not sure if that is true. My interview along with many other people's oaths and interviews is next month so trying to find out if anyone knows anything about it.

Food Inspectors are part of the "essential" group, in fact. So they'd still be on duty.
