TandSarahJane reacted to geowrian in Who should pay for the AOS fees?
If I married a trust fund billionaire, I'm certainly not the one paying the entire fee just because I'm working
Edit: At the same time, maybe I should just to make sure I hold on tightly to them. Gosh, I never even thought of what to do if that ever happened.

Probably worth reporting to the Ombudsman's office. If that gets no traction, then the DHS IG.
And take care of your medical... good luck!

TandSarahJane got a reaction from Davidandxiola in What can I do whilst waiting for EAD?
We found a few other people that live nearby in the same/similar situation and common heritage, so maybe a few times a month they will get together and go shopping, take a baking class, try a new restaurant, or other adventure to get out and socialize.
Sometimes we are able to travel together for business trips or commingle a modest sightseeing adventure.  Those have been quite fun and have added quite a bit to our photo album.
After you get married it's not a bad idea to go see the docs and start building your medical files here in the USA.... not exactly exciting but the medical systems in the USA are probably different from what you are accustomed to.
Take classes online or self-paced learning is also something to keep your mind going strong and maybe pick up new skills for personal/professional development.

Right now we are cresting 6 months of waiting for EAD.

Sounds to me like the adjudicator made an error in sending you the RFIE or there is a mistake on your paperwork that you need to address.  They are human...
I would recommend reviewing your copy of what was submitted for any errors (such as question 36.... I am a () US Citizen () LPR ) and if that is correct, then walk the adjudicator through the rules that an LPR can file an I-130 and that you do not fall under the exclusion criteria listed on page 2 of the instructions.

For what it's worth, this is not the first time USCIS has taken some type of action that cites a requirement for a certified english translation of a birth certificate from the UK, and the birth certificate was included in the original submission and subsequently "misplaced". The other VJ members that reported similar situations were March/April filers if I am not mistaken.

If it's any consolation, it also appears that USCIS tends to correct their mistake after review of the service request.  Usually it takes about a week or so.

Just for future reference no, your future spouse does not need to have an SSN to be added to employer insurance after you get married in the USA.  A fair number of K1 entrants are having issues getting SSNs after arrival, our situation included.
Also, that marriage date is your "qualifying event" so you would change your health coverage at that time, usually you have 30 days to send that update and notify the company of the qualifying event.
Lastly, if your future wife's culture is "not one to go to the doctor unless you're seriously ill" or she did not have much access to care, you may consider some proactive doctor visits after you have her covered on your policy.

Actually there is an indexed exclusion amount for taxation of spousal gifts when the spouse is not a US Citizen.  In 2019, that exclusion amount is $155,000.  If the spouse is a US Citizen then the exclusion is unlimited.

TandSarahJane reacted to Nissilito in AOS sent 1 week ago and no notice of receipt yet...
Hey so I know there are backlogs right now for AOS filing but we sent ours last Saturday. It was supposed to reach lockbox on Monday. We've not received any notice (I filled out the form for e-notification). I know it'll be a few weeks before the credit card transaction shows but shouldnt we have been alerted that they at least received the file? I'm just worried it may have gotten lost...we sent it by USPS.
    Any advice appreciated

its a factual conversation about events in the past that arent changeable.  If i read between the lines here, you're getting an emotional respose from your other half about that... so i would suggest to setup some time to really talk about it. Not make an appointment, but more like "hey -so im concerned about not having enough background on the finances and employment history that is part of the upcoming interview. Can we take about 30 minutes and work through some questions that could arise during the interview?"

Avoid using "you", "i" because it may provoke defensiveness. ask permission for the conversation. reassure him you're not judging or trying to change history. focus on trying to prepare for the interview. take the conversation slowly. do it over video so u can read body language.  Try a "dress rehearsal" with a close friend.

Hopefully these tips help. Good luck!

Some unsolicited advice: Finances and communication are issues 2 and 1 when it comes to being married and living together. Especially when u will be unable to legally work for 6-8 months after arriving in the USA and hidden expenses will start hitting you from every direction... Invest some time in really knowing and understanding your future spouse now.  It will make you more prepared for the interview and give u skills that you'll most certainly need later.

Sounds like you have some serious relationship problems to work on, if he does not respect your opinion on these important issues.  If he chooses his Mom over you it says a lot about his true intentions in marrying you.  By the way, your name isn't Chantel is it?

THIS is your problem. You need to put (c) (9) or else you need to send in money for EAD processing.
    K-1 is (c) (9).

If you put the wrong codes in EAD question 27 - it happens - then the fee is more than 1225. So, I would suggest before you mail it back that you look at the EAD form and see if question 27 says  "(C)(9)" or something else.

This is likely fake or misrepresented news.  One of the only ways to get into trouble in the government is to misappropriate money. USCIS operations are funded by user fees, ICE is not.  There is likely no legal or even procedural way to do  what is being suggested by buzzfeed.

    There is no debit form.
Form G1450 is for credit cards only.
If you input a debit card it would have been refused.
