An important lesson I have learned during my immigration process is that in order to be successful you just have to carefully read instructions, follow them exactly, and just do as you are told. Don't waste time wondering why they are asking for documents or a second interview or a translator. Don't bother trying to call the consulate to ask why a second interview is requested. They have reasons to ask what they are asking, and they likely will not share with you what those reasons are. Just follow the instructions.

I found it useful to download an app for the citizenship questions and took a test every day, any questions I got stuck on or knew I didn't know I wrote down. Writing them down aided my memory. I'll remember the answers to all 100 questions for the rest of my life

Most are common sense, some specific to your State, so get to know your Congresspersons and Senators and Governors names.

I haven’t seen anyone fail the test but here is the applicable section of their policy manual.  I dont think the officer told you to come back.  Policy manual Section F indicates they’ll schedule you another appointment.

Fail again and your app is denied.

    Had my interview today.
It was one of the first ones of the day, so we didn't end up waiting too long. The IO was really nice and personable. He conducted the I-751 interview first with my spouse. Asked us a few questions about how we met etc. Then asked me a few questions about her family. He approved it and we gave a few updated bank statements etc. as updated support. He then moved on to the N-400 interview, my spouse was able to stay in the office. He asked me 6 civic questions (got them all right) and then I had to write out one sentence. He asked a few questions from the Yes/No list and then had me confirm the spelling of my name etc. He said I've been approved, but he has to approve the I-751 in the system first before he can approve the N-400 so I will see the status change online and will be mailed a letter for my oath ceremony.
Can't believe this journey is (almost) over.

TriniGirl2 reacted to Penguin_ie in Negative attitudes in the forum
I wanted to address the negative attitudes we have seen on the rise recently in the upper/ immigration forums towards those who ask beginner/ simple questions, or have unusually fast or slow VisaJourneys.

First, there is a tone difference between the Progress forums- which are mostly for support and cheerleading, and the Info forums, which are mostly to have questions answered.   While all our forums are supposed to be welcoming to all and friendly, this is especially important in the Progress forums, which are not to discuss politics, or be negative towards  those fortunate to have their case dealt with quickly, or  critical of those who voice sadness about their own slow progress. These forums are there to uplift eachother!

Secondly- in the info forums, you may get bad news.  When a question is asked, our members are encouraged to answer truthfully, even if this may not be what the Op wants to hear, because it is important to be informed.  However, the emphasis is still on being welcoming and friendly.  If you need to give bad news, do so gently, and stick to facts; constructive criticism of the Op's plans ARE allowed, but the emphasis is on constructive.  No need to dwell on mistakes (or tell members they should be on 90 Day Fiance- that is a personal attack and automatic suspension), or  illegal actions in the past- instead, encourage and explain legal options for the future.  And ONLY legal options- as per our TOS, VJ does not support, condone or encourage illegal (immigration) actions, and such posts will be removed.

Ultimately, we are here to help all members, old and new, easy cases and complicated, those who write a fact filled bullet point post and those who are panicking and don't make much sense in their first post. Yes, sometimes questions can be easily googled, or answered via a search of our forums.  But if you feel that way, just scroll past- no need to criticise the OP for asking the question.

    Hey all!

My fiance and I were just questioning if it would be good for me to keep my Canadian citizenship..and having to eventually file for a dual citizenship..
I'm not quite knowledgable in this area which is why my questions are:
How would I keep my Canadian citizenship?
How hard is it to apply for a dual citizenship, what's the process like?
What did you guys do, keep or leave?
...And honestly any information would be good because I do not know what questions to ask and where I would start in regards to research.

    Please and Thank you ❤️

We have an F4 immigrant visa interview on December 31. My brother who is currently studying in the states on a student visa will come back for Christmas & the interview. My family won't be able to immigrate before summer because I have to finish my senior school year, and my mom has to finish her teaching year at school. The problem here is that, I suppose, as I read from some sources, the principal applicant (my mom) has to enter the USA before or at the same time as other beneficiary derivatives. But my mom does not have time to leave during Christmas time, as school would start soon. Accordingly, my brother won't be able to leave alone then unless she accompanies him, which is very difficult considering school starts again at like 6 January.

Is there anything we can do in this situation? Will she have to resort to leaving for a day and coming back just so my brother can go to his uni?

Start by studying this website, it has all the information you need to know. Read the guides and learn about the process and costs.

Basically, you have two options: file for a K1 and get married in the US after approval, or get married first and file for a CR1.

And depending on if she defaulted on the loans they may come after any tax refund. Look up innocent spouse provision available so they don’t go after your refund as well. May be wise to figure out how you’ll do finances when you move - if she hasn’t been paying student loans it may mean her credit score is very low.
May also want to look up Dave Ramsey and other financial planners and make it a priority to pay down student debt.
