Hi. It's going to be a year since I applied for AOS through marriage. I got my EAD cards but no news about my Green Card interview yet. I know patience is key but I've been in touch with other people who applied around the same time and they already had their interviews, some didn't even wait 6 months. I think it should be the same timeline for everybody, its a bit unfair. i  know maybe I just have to keep waiting but Im getting a little bit inpatient. Is anybody going through the same situation?

Depends on backlog at your local office

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

I agree with @Timona.  These other people you talked to, were they processed at the same local office as yours?  Hopefully, your application will come up soon.

One thing I learned is that immigration processing times are anything but fair when you start comparing to other timelines.

Some who applied in April 2020 are either still waiting for an interview or have just received notices for an interview

Thats horrible. I know processing times for some cities could go up to almost 3 years but I thought it wasnt that common. Now I guess anything can happen😐..

It is not the "same for everybody," nor is there anything "unfair" about it.  It is directly related to the queue at your local field office.  The Seattle office, for example, is very backed up, and was even so pre-COVID.  We waited 14 months for my husband's interview.  Other field offices had 3 month wait times.

Yes, the queue at your local office makes it unfair 😁

When did you get the letter? I hear they send it a couple of months before the actual interview.

I think we saw the notice on our USCIS account, that the interview had been scheduled.  It was maybe a month or less before the interview date.

We waited a year and that was before Covid. I'm sure the wait is longer now. Some states/cities have more applications than others, so it's not easy (or worthwhile) to compare. As long as you have your EAD/AP cards, you can work and travel regardless.

Something that needs to be kept in mind is that immigration is a privilege, not a right.  So, as frustrating and annoying as it can be, it's a matter of being at the mercy of USCIS.  At least you're with your partner and can travel and work.  Lots of people are stuck in limbo, separated or are stuck and can't work.  Gotta search for the silver linings or the process will drive you mad!

Chiming in just to repeat that it is mostly contingent to the backlog at your local field office. Yesterday there was someone posting here that their green card got approved in two months in LA. So either they have a field office that is not really busy, or they use who knows what witchcraft to process faster.

Also, some people like to check their processing times for their FO. Mine was Pittsburgh, and it said 18 months. Well, we got it under 6 months. There were people that were at the same FO that had been waiting for a year. I guess it also depends on the worker that is reviewing your case, and how fast and diligent they are.

Exactly! I know it depends on your local office, but there was actually a person from pittsburg who got  approved within 6 months and our processing times are not that different.  its just difficult to understand how it works.

Yes. I have been going through the same situation. I applied for AOS through marriage on 9/23/2019 and I was interviewed on 2/16/2022. That’s 2.5 years for an interview. I still haven’t received a decision.
I’m sorry that you are going through this and I hope you’ll have a shorter wait time.
