Does anyone know if it's possible to go through the entire process of the K1 VISA (i.e. beneficiary enters USA, gets work permit and applies for Green card) if my beneficiary never gets a passport? He's stuck in Venezuela now, and their passport office (SAIME) is simply not processing passports at all. Many Venezuelans have waited years and still not received a passport. Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed in this situation (e.g. what other approaches can I try if K1 is a dead end? Would marriage VISA somehow be better in this case, etc)? I don't think asylum will work because he can't travel here without a dangerous passage :(. He has applied for the passport, but it's stuck in processing (presumably due to COVID-19 but as I said, many Venezuelans can never get their passport).

Thank you for your help!

Unfortunately, he cannot get a visa, or travel to the US, without a passport.

According to internet sources (link is below) the VZ passports have been extended for five additional years, but in your case that won't help because your beneficiary doesn't already own a passport. New passports, like you opined, are not being issued because of supplies. Till that is cleared up with new inventory they are not issuing passports. There is no work around for this. You are at the mercy of the VZ government unfortunately. This is what will happen when you are in a Socialist country. People think this process with the US and the issuance of visas I can't imagine what it is like if someone wanted to immigrate to VZ. Americans need to count their blessings.

You make me laugh. I give the OP where the information can be found, and you contradict my post with no links to your source. I suppose some office working in charge of the supply of materials to create new passports didn't order the materials. That doesn't seem to be a plausible answer. No one is contradicting anything from the link you posted. No one is arguing against the fact that VZ is currently not issuing passports due to materials shortages.

The link you posted doesn’t even mention socialism once, that was all your own creative extrapolation. And there are plenty of “socialist” countries where you CAN get passports, just as the previous poster mentioned.

Anyway, all they can really do in this situation is wait. Hopefully “socialism” has a change of heart about their anti-passport material policy. 🙄

Socialist VZ had no problem issuing passports under the previous leadership.  Perhaps it has less to do with socialism and more to do with incompetent government, whatever their political flavor.

Regardless, the current situation is that the OP is stuck in limbo, unfortunately.

The issue that I clearly state is they don't have the materials. They are the only country in the world that are not able to produce a passport. Something to wonder about.

Ironically, your posts appear to have illustrated this.

I waited around 3 months for my US passport. Expedited was listed as 6-8 weeks. In the UK I was able to obtain a passport in around 3 weeks - I could do it same day if I paid extra. If the speed at which a passport can be obtained is a good measure of how well a country functions, the US could learn some lessons from Europe.
