Getting a VISA so I could watch a concert

 Share

I bought concert tickets for Rosebowl Stadium May 3 but I still dont have a VISA and now I'm getting scared that the embassy might not grant me one. Please share your experiences on what happened during the process. Thank you so much!

For more context: I'm from the Philippines. I do have a job but I havent saved that much yet so my parents will be sponsoring the expenses and I would be staying with my aunt in the USA if ever. Tend to only stay there for a week. I've also been to Korea, Hong Kong and Bangkok before.

What are my chances?

Us knowing your changes would be the same as us knowing the winning lottery numbers. It is all a guess. Best thing to do is apply and see.

0% if you don't file.   $160 and a DS-160 to find out.   There really aren't any sponsors in a tourist visa - but it is what it is.

You can have any reason to want to visit the US. So that doesn't matter. Also, as @Paul & Mary mentioned, there is no official sponsorship for a visitor visa to the US. Yes, your parents can pay for the trip, but that is not considered when the decision is made.

The officer is not interested in why you want to come to the US or who is paying for your trip. S/he is more interesting in if you are a risk of abusing the visa later. The officer wants to know what ties do you have to your country that compels you to have to return to your country. they want to know that you will not follow in the footsteps of the tons of other Filipinos in the past that used their visitor visa to come to the US and work and live, which is illegal. If you can prove that to the officer, then you may get a visa. But they could care less about who is in a concert you want to see.

A long way to go for a Concert.

How many Parents would pay the cost? Mine certainly would not have, not that I would have ever asked them to.

I once went from the tip of Africa to go see U2 at Wembley because at that point they had never been to SA and it didn’t look like they ever would (they since have a few times, years later). Of course I had a vacation too not just the concert. Then again those were the days I didn’t need a visa for the UK.

The issue, again, isn’t the reason for visit. It’s the reason to go home again. Ties.

I see, thank you! I'm just worried that they might denied me since I'm not sponsoring the trip myself. I do have a job but I havent saved that much yet to be honest and that's also one of the reason why I asked my parents to sponsor it for me

If you are denied, it wouldn’t be because you aren’t paying for the trip yourself but it would be because they think you will not return back and just stay in the US. Technically, you could have big saving, good job and still stay in the US and not return back. Good thing PH refusal rate is only 24% so there is a chance. Just go for it confidently and hope for the best.
