I’m not sure how relevant an event that was primarily a mass suicide really is to the current topic.

Just to point out though, most of the people who tried to leave Jonestown of their own free will were prevented from doing so at gunpoint, not by Kool Aid.

It's amazing how many of those deaths should NOT be considered suicide. It really should be thought of as mass murder. One of the most harrowing things I've listened to are the recordings of Jim Jones during the final half hour of the event. You can hear babies and children and mothers weeping, and Jones is just continuing to say how this is the only way, that this was revolutionary suicide, that there was no way out. "I don't care how many anguished cries, death is a million times preferable to spend more days in this life. If you knew what was ahead of you — if you knew what was ahead of you, you'd be glad to be stepping over tonight." I'm not going to link to the tape. It's out there to listen to, but I don't recommend it if you haven't before.

Picked up a couple of boxes of cheap .308 fine for sighting in. Wal Mart still seem to have a good selection.

I found some places to buy online with great prices.  When you buy in large quantities, like 1000 rounds, it's free shipping!

I've got several thousands of rounds on hand.  Mostly 9mm.

I feel the same way but at the same time I am pro 2nd amendment.  I have never had the urge to carry a gun while going to the supermarket.  I do believe in assault rifle bans but not bans on everything.  I have lived in two countries (Brazil and Mexico) where there is a complete 100% ban on any kind of weapon and it sucked because of all the break-ins and assaults in those two countries.  You couldn't protect your family from house invasions which is morally wrong.  But at the same time I don't need a weapon of war that can spit out 100 rounds in a minute just to subdue an assailant.  All you need is a handgun or hunting style shot gun to protect yourself from home invasion.

Can you define what an assault rifle is for us, please?

For those that think high capacity is dangerous, have you ever heard of Bob Munden?  Now dead, but he was an AMAZING shot.  He didn't need high capacity hunting rifles to kill many.  But as all lawful gun owners, regardless of caliber, capacity, and weapon, he killed no one, because he had respect for human life.  That is what it all boils down to.

I've got several handguns but no "assult rifles".  All this talk about buybacks and bans has me thinking about buying one while I can, just because.

Looking at the Ruger AR-556 which can be purchased new for under $500.  Don't know where I could shoot it or when.  Just seems like I should buy it now.

Don't come to my house unannounced.

Talk to me before you buy, please.
