I just don't understand why it's necessary to bring a gun to a supermarket.

They just don't bring a gun to the supermarket only,, most whom carry keep it on them, it's not like they say hey I am going grocery shopping let me grab my gun.

This is more of a feel good law, as long as they don't mess with concealed carry I am good with it.

I rarely carry a gun, I do keep them in my vehicles, I will carry if I am going to a bank and that's about it.

As a gun guy myself, and someone who agrees with a lot you say here, I gotta ask...  WHY?  What is your reason behind open carry, aside from "because I can!"?

Honestly, I like open carrying my pistol. But one of the biggest reasons is that I have  Glock 22 and 23 .40 caliber pistols, which are bigger than 9mils. So even if I carry concealed that still jut out from my side. But I am in the process of figuring out a 9mm to buy so I can carry concealed.

I am very pro 2nd amedmant but with comprehensive back ground checks on all transactions, as long as there is a quick appeals process.

As for open carry. To be honest i think it makes no tactical sense what so ever. It makes people uneasy and only serves to hurt the cause. It just draws attention to the person carrying, is more likely than not to cause an incident.

Its not that I am legally against it, i just think its a poor tactical choice.

It doesn't make tactical sense to open carry but it does let people know "That is someone not to be messed with".

Honestly this is one of the reasons why I left CA and LA county as a whole. I tried to get a CCW to carry concealed and it was denied due to "Not a credible reason for a concealed carry permit". I guess protecting myself and my family is not a sufficient reason to get a CCW. But I did have many guns in my house in Pasadena and my neighbors were all cool with it because they knew who to turn to if needed.

I don't see this starting panic buying, just more mom and pop shops will pop up.  Right now I can buy all the ammo I want online and just have it shipped to my house.

Maybe a slight uptick in ammo sales for a brief period. but you can go to any Bass Pro Shop, Academy, Cabella or online gun broker and buy all the weapons you want, and the prices are pretty cheap and been that way the last few years.

I have over 5k rounds of AK ammo that I have stockpiled because ordering online is so easy. But it was very convenient to just pick some more up at Walmart while we are out getting groceries. Because I could go pick up .22, .40, and AK ammo at the same time while my wife is getting bread and milk.

Check your online source and see how their stock is on 9mm and .223/5.56. There is only 1 that will ship to MA and they are out of stock on many of the popular loads for these 2 calibers. And they weren’t on Monday.

I find it amusing that they won't sell the ammo but will of course continue to sell the guns.. seems rather an empty half-hearted gesture. I don't understand those that want to open carry, it causes distress and confusion among the public, and many of those that seem to do it aren't just doing it for the sake of doing it, they're doing it to make some big attention getting statement.

or it signals unwanted interest or possibly being the first person targeted in the event someone starts shooting or robs the place.

Still selling them next to the kids toys at our walmart.. even after the 'redesign'. It's hard to get into the electronics sections and buy something than it is to walk right up to a gun counter.. and btw sometimes it's not even manned..  I worry what one of our nutjobs will do sometime.

It is of course pandering to the activists, the gun section cabinets are locked up as are the guns inside them, not that they have much of a selection.

.223 is a hunting round so that makes no sense. What about .22, 9mm and .45 are used in both Carbines and Pistols so are a few others.

I am fine with you concealed carrying btw, though I'd feel more comfortable to know that in order to obtain a gun and use it the person could be well trained and stable of body and mind. But have you ever thought that it isn't that people aren't 'messing with you' when you open carry, but people are actually uneasy and frightened you will snap and kill them and their kids at a moments notice? Because honestly.. if I saw someone walk into a walmart open-carrying, I would be running away as fast as possible and calling the police. It's the world we live in, you know?
