Hi, I wanted to post and get some ideas from anyone who can contribute on what would be a great addition for the "Welcome to the USA - Starter Kit"!!

 

My Fiancé is coming to the USA and I wanted to give him a nice welcome, so I came up with some of the ideas. We filed for K1 Visa.


My idea is the driver license manual handbook hard copy as I have this now and it's recent/up to date

-our current timeline/future event to do with our K-1 Visa Journey and the future

-things to do list; social security, marriage arrangement, etc.

-a copy of the state bluebook (Example)

-amazon prime subscription LOL

-gym membership with me

-???

Does he come from an English-speaking country or is he likely to need help with English? If the latter, you could research informal English conversation groups at the local library or similar. It’s also a good way to meet others in a similar situation (recent immigrants). 

 

Since he won’t be able to work for a long time, he might get bored easily so library membership is a good idea so that he can rent DVDs, books, join in workshops, research things he needs to know about the area, etc. 

 

Find interesting or unusual places to visit on weekends - even if it’s just a few hours. Landmarks, historic towns, etc to get him out of the house and acquainted with the area.

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

@WaterLeaf and @JFH  What wonderful ideas! Thank you both. I'm putting together a list of places for my fiance where may want to volunteer. He would be able to get to know people in the area and, hopefully,  begin to feel at home.  Volunteering could also possibly lead to a job.

If you live in an area, where a bicycle is not a danger....go ahead and get him one. Mobility is a must when you are caged to a house/apartment. I lived in OR and WA, which for the most part are bicycle friendly.

A bicycle is a great idea! I live in an area where public transportation is convenient. I'm going to include train and bus info for him. Maybe I'll get him a multiple trip pass.

time to spend till EAD gets to him...is polishing his resume, taking online classes, getting to know what, where and when of the US customs (not CBP) lol. My wife actually found a way to work from home now. I was shocked she found an actual online job, that is not customer service or sales.

Favourite gift I got was a pocket size copy of the Constitution.   

 

Otherwise, if you live in the city, public transit card pre-loaded with some funds. Map of your favourite spots/streets/resources to explore while you are at work; calendar of activities at the local library/YMCA/Museum for the current month.  You can stop by the tourist info bureau to get free maps and calendar of events.  SIM Card or phone...

We're gonna live in the suburb/nearby the city, so someone suggested a Moped because no ID is required for it in the state of Tennessee.

I think you should take a look at the requirements again.......

 

"Motorized bicycle license. If the operator is 14 or 15, he must have a motorized bicycle license to operate a moped. If the operator is 16 or older, a valid driver’s license is required."

August 7, 2022: Wife filed N-400 Online under 5 year rule.

November 10, 2022: Received "Interview is scheduled" letter.

December 12, 2022:  Received email from Dallas office informing me (spouse) to be there for combo interview.

December 14, 2022: Combo Interview for I-751 and N-400 Conducted.

January 26, 2023: Wife's Oath Ceremony completed at the Plano Event Center, Plano, Texas!!!😁

February 6, 2023: Wife's Passport Application submitted in Dallas, Texas.

March 21, 2023:   Wife's Passport Delivered!!!!

May 15, 2023 (about):  Naturalization Certificate returned from Passport agency!!

 

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

August 7, 2022: Wife filed N-400 Online under 5 year rule.

November 10, 2022: Received "Interview is scheduled" letter.

December 12, 2022:  Received email from Dallas office informing me (spouse) to be there for combo interview.

December 14, 2022: Combo Interview for I-751 and N-400 Conducted.

January 26, 2023: Wife's Oath Ceremony completed at the Plano Event Center, Plano, Texas!!!😁

February 6, 2023: Wife's Passport Application submitted in Dallas, Texas.

March 21, 2023:   Wife's Passport Delivered!!!!

May 15, 2023 (about):  Naturalization Certificate returned from Passport agency!!

 

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..
