Hi, I dont even know this topic is appropriate or not but I feel pretty restless for the last 4 days. Yet also feel stupid to ask such question. Please bear with me and my English.

I argued with a "visa center phone agent" (the 0700 number) and pretty much call her the B word. How extremely stupid of me. Now what?! Can she hold that against my file? Will she be able to mark my case in someway and make it harder for my parent to obtain the visa? My mother is in a difference country right now.

Im applying immigrant visa for my mother to come to the US to live with me. 4 days ago I called the visa helpline to ask their opinion about some details on the application. The woman on the phone was very mean and unpleasant right off the bat. She is very condescending and keep repeating the fact that she can not fill out the form for me before she even heard my questions. Mind you, the form have over 50 questions and I asked her less than 5. We went back and forth, with me being as nice as I can be because I understand the fact that they have the knowledge.  Eventually (about 10 minutes later), she told me she can only answer 1 more question as if there is a guideline somewhere said Im only allowed so many questions. I was so fed up and angry, I did a stupid thing, called her the B word right before I hungup.

I really need input from anyone at all have a experience as such.

Please be kind and understand the fact that I know it unwise of me.

The process have been very hard and lengthy. I have read and researched all the information I could find for days. So what I asked her wasnt some dumb questions. Hence why I was so frustrated. It pretty much wasnt what she said but how she said it.

Thank you very much. Im sorry and Please delete if my topic is not appropriate. Im desperated as I dont know where else to ask about this issue.

The people you were talking to work in a call center they have very little knowledge of the systems and work off of scripts to answer the questions they are not experts in the process and are not allowed to give info on the forms. They have guidelines they have to use and I am sure there is a limited amount of time they can spend on each call. They do not have the ability to put things in your file and should not be able to hold anything against you. They are low man on the totem pole and have minimal access to the info that in in the computer system.

Can you please tell me what is the real purpose of their helpline? The one that open from 7am to midnight? Usually, when I have question about any file I130, Affidavit of Support, etc I always make appointment with the USCIS field office and they always will the help me sort everything out or even review my file before I submit. I have to drive 5 hours to their field office but Im willing to do the drive. Visa center doesnt even have a physical address.  I dont have much problem with legal advice either, mostly are some wording question seem very confusion to me, that is all.

If you need help hire an attny or post your questions here on visajourney. As explained in prior posts USCIS/NVC can NOT provide legal advice- that means they can not help you fill out the forms/explain what things mean/advise you on how to answer besides saying to answer honestly and correctly etc. I dont know what kind of help you got previously in person but it must not have been considered legal help and apparently the questions you are now asking are.

The customer service numbers can give you the same information you can find using your online case account. They can tell you the case status, give you any posted updates etc. Its basically for people who dont have internet access or prefer phone system/live help.

I might confuse between legal advise and general information question. They usually tell me nicely if they can or can not help. These agents must have done this a thoundsand times, it is my first time to apply for a visa and probably last. I never thought I would depend on them to fill out my file. A little compassion would go along way. But then again I should let my emotion get the best of me in this case. It could potentialy hurt the outcome of the situation. 😔😔

Many people have probably felt like calling those "helpers" what you called them...

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Try to stay calm and just call later that week and ask your questions directly. Truly those poor people have a very job now since they are overwhelmed daily. But that said majority of them are not very good at their jobs.

Honestly, if you have any confusion about how a question is worded on an application/what type of evidence is being asked for, you're better off asking here in the forums than calling the helpline.

So which number did you call exactly? The number to call USCIS is 800-375-5283, so I'm not sure you actually talked to a USCIS representative.

I think OP meant they called the National Visa Center help line, their phone number ends with 0700.

Their number is 6033340700. I dont thjnk they are the same as USCIS. I only talked to USCIS agent in person a few time in their field office. As far as they told me, they are not representative, they are actually interview officers who review cases and paperworks. You can make appointment online anytime to come in.
