Hi!

I'm a green card holder through K1 visa. Pregnant and really need my mom being next to me while baby delivery. Today I want to apply for her B1/B2 visa (as she doesnt know english, Im just doing paperwork for her) but I'm confused what to chose as a visa purpose: tourism or other(baby shower).

Also have OB letter that proof of my pregnancy and need mom's support.  what you guys can advise in this case? Has anyone had this kind of situation?

Tourism.

She applies and finds out....she will be issued the visa based on her circumstances and ties abroad. The letter will have no impact on getting the visa or not (well, except maybe hurting her case with regards to potential working....but generally I say it doesn't swing the case either way).

She cannot work in the US...this includes being a caretaker for you or your child. Be very careful not to cross the line from emotional support into providing care.

Good luck.

As much as you may WANT your mum here for the shower and when the baby is born, it is not NECESSARY. I had 2 kids and NO ONE to help and managed just fine. Your husband should be your 'help'.

She can apply for a tourist visa. She will have to show strong ties back to her Country and that she isn't going to stay here. That will be on her to prove. I don't know how easy it is to get tourist visas from that particular country. Some are more difficult than others.

Very hard...over 50% refusal rate last year.

In general I would think “I want to meet my new grandchild” is enough in a situation like this, and agree with others that a letter like that could tip the balance against the case if the CO views it as a “care” role rather than just a new grandparent visiting. (Many people go back to work before 3 months by the way so in that sense the letter may also raise more questions than it answers.)

OP, does your mom have a husband, a house, a job, other grandchildren at home, anything that will help convince the CO that she will return after a temporary visit to the US?

I wouldn't include the letter as it sounds like she's coming to "work".

Have you considered having the baby there? That may be the only way to have your mom at the birth if she doesn't have strong ties to her country and gets denied. It's more paperwork, though.

That OB letter telling the embassy to give your mom a tourist visa because you need emotional support could go either way, you know?

I went thru 2 big surgeries in the last 2 years and my mom (who has a tourist visa) did not come to visit because she was unable to visit due to personal matters. I had my husband as emotional support and was enough. So that you are pregnant will not pull anything. Actually it could work against her case. With a grandchild in the US she probably will love to stay with you and have a "sudden" change of mind after POE. Like usually happens.

They could not care any less if you are pregnant or need support. It's not their problem. That is why you have a husband you made the baby with. If a letter from a OB doctor had any weight on this then everybody would be pulling that card if they become pregnant.

You can help her by filling out the form online, etc but it's all about her. Her ties and her reason to return to her country after VISITING you.

By the way like others mentioned before, that letter mentioned you need your mother after baby delivery. But you mention a baby shower. So when and for how long you need your mom there?

I may ask my OB not to mention that I need physical help(I’m healthy) but just proof that I’m pregnant, that’s it.

That won't help her application.  The best thing that will help is proof that she will return home: ties, job, family, property.

I know she wants to see you and that's important to you.  We all get that and it's super sweet: having your mum there after having a baby is always helpful.  But, in the eyes of immigration, your emotional wellbeing is not something they are interested in.  A letter from your OB won't do anything other than plant in the CO's mind that she's coming to work.

For what purpose? The majority of younger married couples have children. Those who dnt are the exception. It’s nothing unusual to be pregnant. And the embassy doesn’t need to know or even care that you are pregnant. What made you think you need to “prove” it to the embassy?

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!
