Nobody HAS to apply for citizenship!

There's many people who are loooooong term green card holders.

Although I wonder why someone would want to live in a country so contrary to the own religious ideals anyway.

https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume12-PartJ-Chapter3.html indicates the available modifications for the oath, as well as the evidence required.

 

In my N-400 I filed a month ago I requested the second one, which is an affirmation as opposed to an oath, due to my being non-religious.

Legally you can ask for an oath modification based on your religious/deep-rooted moral view.  This is a legal right available to you, should you wish to use it.

 

No, you cannot be denied citizenship solely based on requesting a modified oath.

America is a country where everyone has the right to practice their own religion...so why not want to live here?

USCIS obviously recognizes individual religious ideals or else they wouldn't have put in the provision for the possibility of a modified oath.

There are many diverse religious beliefs and the absence of religious belief in this country. It is what America is, diverse. 
What does that have to do with wanting to live here ?

Yeah, from that point of view you are right, of course.

I didn't consider it's because of the oath. My understanding was citizenship of this country not compatible to religious ideals of of.

A. Bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; or
B. Perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; or
C. Perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law.

the entire oath is as follows

hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

 

your issue is covered and there are many that do not want to bear arms

No, you won't be denied. However, your "deep seated religious believes", will tested, based on your religion. What is your religion? There is two letters that you have to include with your application. I personally know many people who have taken a modified oath. If you mention your religion I can let you know what to do. I have written the two letters for friends.
