I married my wife last time i was in the U.S on a tourist visa, at the port of entry when i was asked what the purpose of my trip was I said "to visit a university I'm thinking about applying to" soon after i was granted an entry, I did visit the university as I said, but also got married and left the U.S about 2 months after. We submitted the I-130 paperwork a few weeks before i flew back to my home country, and still going through the process (my i-130 got approved recently now currently in the NVC process)

My question is: do you think there's any chance that my immigrant visa (CR-1) will be denied simply because i married my girlfriend on a tourist visa even though i left soon after (didn't adjust status)? or perhaps they're going to scrutinize the way I entered the U.S as I disclosed the fact that my main purpose of entering the U.S was for marriage?

What do you guys think? is what I've done a good reason enough to deny my case??

Any reason you did not stay and adjust?

Getting married on a visitor visa and attempting to stay and file adjustment of status or marriage visa has about a 99% chance of being denied.

Glad you were amused, what exactly do you feel was wrong and where did you get your information to believe this is wrong?

Umm try again. Very few aos from b1/2 or vwp cases that we see on VJ are denied.

VJ has a whole forum devoted to doing this?

Most people I have actually met went this route?

Let me see if I can come up with anything else.

this is why uscis will not approve a visitor visa if the intention is marriage because they are assuming once you are married then you will stay in the US past your visitor visa expiration date.

This couldn't be more wrong. USCIS has nothing to do with visitors. Clue is in the name - United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. They deal solely with people wanting to live in the USA. Visitor visas are adjudicated by the embassies where the applicants live.

Tourist visas from applicants wishing to marry in the USA are not denied for that reason. Many people do travel to the USA to marry - you mentioned Las Vegas. That place makes a fortune out of people flying in to town to get married. There are more places to get married there than anywhere else.

You do realize that they're permitted to lie right? I suppose that the multiple approved cases on vj must be the 1% Sorry that you were misinformed

I am trying to think when I saw the last denied case, certainly it was not down to the method of entry.

This is where I had my scheduled appointment, whether it is true or not, I'm telling you what I was told face to face by the immigration officer I spoke with. Take it or leave it If you think I am a liar that is your choice, I still have my letter from them verifying my appointment time and date, but i'm not about to dig through my files to entertain you people who want to troll me. I have no reason to lie or give false information, for what reason would I.

Nobody said you were lying, just that you are wrong. Lots of good information on VJ start by reading the Guides, if somebody posts misleading information sadly the Mods do not delete it so others have to correct it.

I'll chime in and second or third my own assurance that 99+% chance is for being approved, not denied. People who do this, are usually one of a hundred or more couples every day, also successful doing the same.

The truth is, "intent to marry and stay" or even to stay when marriage was abroad or on an earlier trip to the USA, is simply NOT grounds to deny LPR status to the spouse of a US Citizen. The same thing holds true for spouses who have overstayed their visa for years. The overstay is simply forgiven and so is any unauthorized employment.

Google "Tourist Visa: Can I Use It To Enter The USA, Marry & Adjust Status?"

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Hey slow down. No one said anything about lying. Maybe you misunderstood what you were told. Maybe he misunderstood your question. Maybe you both misunderstood each other.

Fact is, immediate family can adjust status once inside the USA as a visitor. It is only fraudulent if they arrive with a visitor visa or under the VWP with the intention of immigration. It's up to the CBP officer at the airport or border crossing to deduce whether they are intending to stay or not. Once they have been admitted by CBP, should they subsequently change their minds and decide to stay, they can. Now, whether all of those who go down this route really change their minds after they arrive is anyone's guess. I don't always believe them myself. Especially those who have gone to great lengths to demonstrate strong ties to their home country in order to secure a visitor visa - and the ties can suddenly be broken once they leave the baggage claim of the airport. But it's not my job to admit or deny them into the country.

Thanks for the link to the USCIS office in Las Vegas. I have never doubted its existence though.
