Time lawyer takes to assemble spouse/fiance petition

Hi,

 

How long does it take before the lawyer finishes checking the petition before sending it off? Or do you send it off?

 

I went to one and he said 4 weeks after I gather all documents! I'm thought to myself "What is taking 4 weeks!? You're killing me Smalls!"

There's no standard time for lawyers. I know one took 6 months. Do it yourself you have the package.

A lawyer can set his or her own timeline. They are independent. There is no law or requirement to have it done in a set time period. 

 

With that being said, you can do it yourself as fast as you are able to. I have read people having it done in 1 day. Just because you have a lawyer doesn't mean it will go faster. And sometimes lawyers even cause delays.

My attorney took about 10 days to prepare and send the documents after I supplied them..........if I had to do it again, I would have done it myself to save the $2000 his "service" cost me.

Is yours a complicated case? If not, do it yourself. Plenty of help you can get here.

I suggested you let the lawyer do it ,if only he or she is already your lawyer , because in case of complication it Will be easier for him/her to over come it .

If you have a straightforward case, quicker to do it on your own.  You have only yourself as your client.

Would agree with if it's straight forward, no major issues, red flag, ect... do it yourself.

 

If I had taken a little time to read up on it before we submitted our petition originally, would have saved me the $800. Could have easily done it ourselves.

 

We did our own AOS because knew it would be another waste of money having someone else prepare it all.

Just curious, what agencies as Rapid Visa do for their clients?

They collect their fee, request documents and information from you, fill in blank forms with the information you provide, and they mail the forms to USCIS.  They can not speed up the process.

To add to this, the ### on the line is yours, not theirs, so always remember to double-check what they do.
