JCP reacted to emma24 in K1 Why Bother
You hit on the main reason we did K1. I couldn't fathom marrying the love of my life and then having to be apart for 1-2 years. Everyone has their own reasons for the route they take!

JCP reacted to Dashinka in K1 Why Bother
I would add one other benefit for the K1, same sex couples where one of them lives in a country where that type of marriage is not recognized to an extreme manner. Many of those couples also fall into the first two bullet points you mentioned.

JCP reacted to Lucky2Lucky in K1 Why Bother
What’s the point in filing a k1?
Foreign fiancé unable to visit the US and American fiancé unable to travel currently to foreign country. It is a significant hassle and can take months and a lot of money to get a legitimate marriage certificate in a foreign country. Marriage in foreign country may not be in English and the American can’t understand. American fiancé wants their family to be present at the marriage. Neither spouse wants to live apart AFTER marriage. -

K-1 meant I got to see the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with sooner rather than later and just suited what we wanted to do with our lives more.
Even if it's a harder overall timeline, the most important thing for us was seeing each other sooner rather than later. None of us could have predicted a global pandemic that could have affected timelines this severely last November when we filed.

JCP reacted to Limey in Became a citizen today - Interview with covid precautions
My interview was scheduled for today in Raleigh NC (Durham) and I was given details about precautions for covid19 in advance (wear a mask, don't arrive more than 15 minutes in advance, etc).
Upon arrival and having navigated security I was directed to a numbered room where there was an ipad video link to the interviewer in another room. The entire interview was conducted via the ipad so there was no close contact with other people. There was hand sanitizer in the room. For the parts where I had to write things down the interviewer sent things to the printer in my room and I was asked to write and then hold them up to the camera.
After being approved I was sent to a larger room next door with around 8 other people - we all sat on chairs that were around 10ft apart. After a wait of around 20 minutes the oath ceremony was conducted, and we became citizens.
It was disappointing after such a long visa journey that it had to conclude without a traditional ceremony that friends and family could attend but I have no complaints - I was very impressed at how well USCIS handled things and have adapted to continue operating during the pandemic.
Best of luck to everyone else out there and stay safe!

JCP reacted to Just Paul in Trump Cuts Legal Immigrants by Half, and He's Not Done...
Well it doesn't apply to you. Putting on "Hold" IR5 and Family preferences and trimming some old programs is cutting the 2021 estimates in half.
CR1/IR1 isn't affected.

JCP reacted to Lucky2Lucky in Merit Based Immigration Concern (Split)
You’d rather end your life then move to the foreigners country? You have an option..

JCP reacted to Crazy Cat in Merit Based Immigration Concern (Split)
I guarantee it will not stop all family based immigration....that is pure nonsense. I just can't imagine anyone believes that stuff at this pint.....No reason to worry about something isn't in existence yet. I suggest you stop watching Youtube videos and FB posts which are published just to promote fear. These people know absolutely NOTHING. They are trying to get clicks or they are trying to stir up political mud.............NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING YET!!!!!!

JCP reacted to milimelo in My husband is threatening me [merged threads]
Like you said, you have a 10-yr green card. Stop contact with him (May want to remind him of I-864 terms) and live your life. He’ll have a hard time getting an annulment 2+ yrs after marriage.
If you want to divorce, do it but he needs to know divorce doesn’t stop I-864.

JCP reacted to Just Paul in COVID-19 Consulate Re-openings - Listed by Country - What Phase is the Country In?
Here is a good site to check to see what the status of each country is in with regards to the STAGES the US Department of State has for the Consulates:
https://www.immigrationlaw.com/u-s-consulate-closures-due-to-covid-19/
It is updated as changes occur!
Word of Warning - I have talked to the site and they are only showing updates that are via the Consulate's and Foreign countries website. Example: the announcement of Jamaica processing immigrant visas was placed on the consulate's facebook site and not updated on the consulate's website and is not reflected on this link.
Best wishes ~ Paul

JCP reacted to payxibka in K1 Visa Issuance Affected by EO after all?
Petitions are being processed, routine visa services are suspended

JCP reacted to Phunky38927 in K1 Visa I-129F Processing at CSC Now at 150 Days -- Total K1 Timeline Now 9 months
No matter how much research someone does there’s no exact timeline for anyone case. Every case is different some take longer some take shorter due to background checks and so forth. In each and every single case all we can do is be patient and know that our day will come regardless.
also interviews all depend on the country and their availability I’ve seen some timelines where people get in quick others that take months plus since we’re still in a pandemic everything is behind.
Good luck to everyone waiting

JCP reacted to Phunky38927 in What are the chances of success
Beyond frustrating with these “bans” I left the day the ban was put into place. However, I’ll remain hopeful for all of us stuck in this position of being unable to be with our loved ones. Good luck on yours as well

JCP got a reaction from Phunky38927 in What are the chances of success
I hope they lift this travel ban soon! It’s so stressful! My fiancé and I were supposed to see eachother two weeks before they issued the travel ban. 😤
hopefully things will go back to normal soon! Good luck on your journey!

JCP got a reaction from Empressdivine in K1 Visas are NOT exempted from the April 2020 immigration suspension
Hey guys I contacted a immigration lawyer and she said that k1 visas are still being processed. She’s an award winning lawyer I don’t think she’s be spreading wrong information

JCP reacted to Cilllah in K1 Visas are NOT exempted from the April 2020 immigration suspension
Australia is processing emergency interviews but no normal ones.
-
JCP reacted to sl1pstream in K1 Visas are NOT exempted from the April 2020 immigration suspension
Because an emergency interview isn't routine.
-
JCP reacted to Greenbaum in K1 Visas are NOT exempted from the April 2020 immigration suspension
Here is the problem as I see it. Someone who answered the email is not fully vetted in the EO. Their answer is not coming from the EO but someone who has not interrupted the EO. So, you can populate any part of the EO but if the embassy states this is the way it will be then this is the way it will be.
It seems clear, to me, that K-1 visas are not affected by the latest EO. It is a non-immigrant visa. Be aware that CBP at POE has final say regarding any non-citizen's entry into the US.....not any consulate.

JCP reacted to Babu Frik in K1 Visas are NOT exempted from the April 2020 immigration suspension
That won't stop them from not processing them if that's their stance.
-
JCP reacted to NoMansLand2020 in K1 Visas are NOT exempted from the April 2020 immigration suspension
They gave you incorrect information. The suspension is for individuals attempting to enter the US as immigrants (green card holders)
