portorusa got a reaction from Diane and Chris in to ask the passport be returned
Nobody "brought" nothing on themselves, it's called life circumstances, my dear. You seem to be young, and may have more patience, good for you. My husband and I are approaching retirement, and life is too short. We already feel being "robbed" of many, many days that could otherwise be lived in happiness.
It's not ethical to try to shame me into my "privileged position", as well as to compare my situation with the others. Do I feel sorry for those in the same boat? You bet, I am. But it doesn't change the fact of an opportunity to see my husband sooner. It is present, it is there. And we are willing to take a risk. The worst case scenario is being sent back at the border. But at least we tried.
If my husband were say, from Pakistan, I might have not opened this topic. And there is an option on the Embassy website to request your passport while being in AP, and it's for a reason, so we think we do have this reason. Even if most people here disagree, and I understand it, too.
For those saying that asking the passport back may slow down the process, I disagree. Passport or no passport, Administrative Processing is under way. Just ask those whose passports were returned to them post-interview and pre-AP, then asked be sent to the Embassy as soon as AP is completed.

It’s useless to contact the Embassy, on the phone or by email makes no difference. We tried several times and still no progress, no explanation and zero accountability. They just don’t care.

That’s what I read on Quora also. They say there that refusal and denial are two different things. Refusal is permanent where an outcome can be either way, while denial is final.

portorusa got a reaction from Anita2020 in I-751 submitted USC Spouse died
To put « never married » on death certificate of a married deceased is a lie. If I were you, I would file to amend it with a copy of your marriage certificate proving that you are a widower and that you were married to your wife at the time of her death.

portorusa got a reaction from paumagre in Moving/flying with a pet
My husband brought his dog from France to USA in 2016. He used Air France, direct flight from Paris to LA and put the dog in a hold due to its weight of 20 lb. It cost him $200. The dog had his Certificat de Bonne santé, microchip and a special cage (metallic with two doors on opposite sides and the space large enough for the dog to stand in and able to turn around). By the vet’s advice the dog had not been fed 24 hrs before the flight (only water allowed), and my husband put his T-shirt worn for a day or two in the cage so that the smell of the dog’s owner to comfort the pet. They keep the temperature and noise level in the hold adequate for the animals so you don’t have to worry, your dog will be fine. My husband’s dog had never traveled by air before, that was his first time and he endured a 12 hr flight just fine. Good luck!

Back when I was 19 a girl told me that she loves me, I was happy. Then she said she loved me as a friend. Are you sure she doesn't love you as a friend or a son?

This - I have done IVF (twice as it didn’t work the first time) and I wouldn’t wish it on the worst person in the world.
OP - IVF isn’t something to be taken lightly or to do just to try and make your relationship look more real. Neither is adopting some innocent child who is looking for love not to be a prop for your green card case.
Yeah but do you honestly think he will take on the lions share of dealing with the baby/child?

Slow down dude. Seriously.
You proposed after talking online for a few months and spending one week in person. Instead of asking about immigration, you need to ask yourselves what you need to do to build this relationship.
Affidavits from family members don't mean much if they have never seen you both in person.
Also, don't even consider starting this immigration process with a lie.

We got an interview date in Paris less than 3 weeks from the IL date. It was barely enough to get the medical done and prepare all the copies of required documents for the interview (which the CO never asked for, anyway).
To Rose: I have serious doubts that they will allow you to switch from Montreal to Paris without an established residency in France. They don't care about your citizenship, they care about where you live at in fact. That means the residence address, bills on your name from that address, proof of work, etc. I don't think a few weeks will be enough for "established" (judging from other posters here on VJ and they are not from France). Hope I am mistaken but why not to try? You never know.

portorusa reacted to Cathi in 14 years age gap is it a problem?
Don't you know to never ask a woman her age and does it matter? I'm 21 years older than my husband and my husband didn't have any issues. Period.
You can look at my timeline to see the dates.

No news, thanks for asking. The Police Certificate obtained via email was sent to the Embassy via email last Friday. Since then silence...

portorusa reacted to Marieke H in Visa ir1 second interveiw
It's not really for no reason... Based on this thread and previous posts, I can see plenty of reasons for the officer to take their sweet time to take a decision on your case. You mention an 8 year age difference, elsewhere you say it's 10 years. If there were any inconsistencies like this during your interviews that looked suspicious. Your wife has 4 children to support, and her income is not sufficient to sponsor you without a cosponsor. Your wife has sponsored 2 other men in the past and is still responsible for them financially.
Lots of reasons to do thorough research before giving you a visa. All you can do is wait and hope for the best.

I think they stopped doing Infopass everywhere. It’s the Trump administration changes, to save $$. They think that all the information can be received by phone. In fact, it’s a disservice to customers as most of the time the first line customer reps know nothing and just read you the information on the screen. To get to a second -tier officer or supervisor is difficult, and USCIS rarely call back.

My husband and stepson had their interview in Paris for CR1/CR2 visa.
My husband was asked when was the last time we saw each other and where.
My stepson was only asked if he had ever visited the USA before.
The CO never asked to see any photos, or beneficiary's children's birth certificates, or any financial information.
He only asked for Police Certificate for my stepson.
My husband said he had none because the child is less than 16 y.o.
The CO gave him back Denial Letter with Police Certificate circled on it.
He said unless Police Certificate is provided, no visa will be issued.
The age of the child is 15 years 9 months. The child had never been arrested before, never had any problems with the law.
The Paris Embassy immigrant visa documents list mentions Police Certificate for those whose age is 16 y.o. or more.
I am speechless......

portorusa got a reaction from lady3jane in Police certificate for >16 y.o., right? WRONG
They didn't even asked for half of the documents listed. Like, never asked for my original I-864, beneficiary's children's birth certificates, or any photos, proof of bona fide marriage. Barely asked any questions. Gave the denial letter on which Police Certificate is circled. I am furious 😬 Of course, we gonna comply, we have no choice. But I guess our experience can be useful for someone else in a similar situation. Thanks for your responses!

Uh, LOTS of women do not want to be a mother. It is a perfectly valid choice.
What man doesn't want to work to support his immigrant wife and the children he purports to want?
