Timona got a reaction from Sm1smom in Visiting US after withdrawal of Asylum claim from Canada
From what I understand they were, in chronological order:
    1. In US then
    2. Went to Canada and sought asylum
    3. Withdrew Canadian asylum within a week or so, but all while still in Canada
    4. Flew back to home country from Canada.
    5. Now is asking if they can come back to the US and seek US asylum..

I'm interested to know which country is this we're talking about

@Timona It is a special enrollment but only valid for 1-2 months after marriage date. It's going to be almost 6 months for me.

    Hi Guys!
Yes, my dates are correct, of course.
And @Villanelle is exactly right, of course, as well. Exactly right!

    Backstory
We married in Oct, 2016, and did DCF (Direct Consular Filing) in Manila.
DCF in Manila was available at the time. It only took a few weeks to get the spousal visa. POE/Immigrated  to America in December, 2016, two months later.
THAT is/was the beauty of DCF.

In fact, we could not file the N-400 until one day past our third year anniversary, even though our 90-day N-400 window had opened in September.
We had to wait till we were married a full three years, hence the married on Oct 10, 2016 and filed N-400 Oct 11, 2019. The online system warned us when we tried to start the filing earlier, based on the 90-day window.
For most "normal" timelines, this timing issue does not come up. But when you get the spousal visa in only 4 or so weeks, it matters.

    Side Note
[Now, people think we are lucky and all that, but really, this was thought through, and the benefit of the US Spouse making a significant sacrifice to actually reside in the Philippines, rather than do long distance.
It was not by chance, it was a benefit of planning for several years. We thought it through. It costs lots of money to do this. Was not cheap, by any means, but we wanted to be and stay together, so we made the sacrifice of the US Spouse living in the Phils.
Now, there is no DCF in Manila anymore, so could not do it that way now. We would have done something else...like ask the beneficiary's company for a work transfer to the States. The beneficiary continues to work for the same global firm now, only now in Tampa (our choice from one of 100 cities in the US).]

    Additional Note:
Notice that we actually got married IN THE US, right near his Hawaii residence. And then went back to the Philippines to do the process, because we had learned from VJ what was proper to do, and we did it that way...the right way.

She mentions DCF in Manila.   In 2016 it was likely she could have done the DCF there in as little as 2 months.

My wife's notice for her rescheduled citizenship interview was similar to your receipt, very faint ink at the top. I figured they're trying to stretch their funds as much as possible.

@geowrian Happens to me all the time.  Just delete your browser history. I think you get certain number of free reads after which you hit a pay-wall. However, I've come to learn that clearing my history, which bears previous reads/ history of WSJ, NYT etc, cheats their system and I get to read free again.

@J/G interesting article. One a funny note, my receipt notice came on fainted ink. I could barely read the top 1/4 of the notice. I looked at it and I was like "Wow. Really. After all the money I paid?" Atleast I'm young and still have good vision. Hahah

@USAUG I'll try and dim it down..you can apply for citizenship under the 3 years or 5 years.
Now, the 3 or 5 years is calculated starting from the "Residence Since Date" written on the GC she has, whether 10/ 2 year GC.

Now, for you to apply under 3 year rule, you have to prove that you have been continuously living with your US spouse for the past 3 years since your "residence since date." This is what she was denied on.

For you to apply under 5 year rule, all you just have to do is make sure it's 5 years from "Residence since date" printed on your GC.

I really do not understand why he stated that you're from Spain yet you are from Germany. I mean, it's not as if we were going to hunt you down and ask for the story. This still baffles me.

As others have said, whoever your husband is, he is huffing and puffing against the wind. Take it easy. Seek happiness. I don't know what state you guys are in, but if not Texas, you can move here, establish residency for 6 months and be divorced 60 days after that. Seek your happiness and go for whatever divorce path suits you.

What state are we talking about? Maybe if known, others can give you better divorce answers...like if you can start it online while out of country etc.

You can register to vote right after the oath ceremony. There should be stands for registration when you exit the hall.

I would update SSN records before getting the passport. And you might not be able to get a passport now, as most offices are just processing emergency applications.

Regarding driver license, unless you need to renew or get a real ID driver license, there is nothing to update.

    Yes, it is.

Using RV won't guarantee that your GC will be approved. What's guaranteed is:

    1. You'll do all the leg work in terms of providing information to them (which if your case is simple as A B C, you may as well use the DIY guides at the top right of the page and save $$ paid to RV, albeit even in installments)

    2. Depending on how busy they are or how many back and forths that'll arise between you and them, your case will be delayed by you just sending it to them (you may as well just cut off this lapse time and send the information to USCIS yourself because you've already DIY-ed 1 above)

    3. You will pay them. I don't like typing anything in a computer but it took me 4 hours max to fill all those forms on Adobe. So if you're like my wife, you can crack it in half the time. Some of us prefer old-school pen to paper. One of you can type, the other can take charge of collecting the documents.  Then you switch and crosscheck each other's work..🤷🏾‍♂️ Btw, the instructions are also free online. So it'll tell you what to submit with the documents

    4. They will send your application to USCIS.

    5. That's all.

If you file K1, you have to marry in the US.
If you get married in DR, you file CR1...

Those are 2 different processes that don't mix and match.
