File N400 while I751 is pending

Have been waiting 21 months for 1-751 but never get updates (texas service center) so I filed for N-400 today what are the processing times looking like? Does already haveing the i751 seem to help speed up the process thanks

When I did my wifes N400 this past November, they approved The I-751 and had the green card only 19 days after filing N400, so I believe it speeds up the I-751 process in my experience. And only like 4 months after green card arrived, wife did interview, and then took oath a few weeks later. Was a citizen within 5 months of filing N400.

After waiting 40 months for her I-751 to be processed, my wife filed N-400 in Aug 2022.  Only 4 months later, both our I-751 and her N-400 were approved in a combo interview (Dec 2022).  The next month, in January 2023, she became a US citizen.  In our case, filing the N-400 pushed the I-751 to a quick end.  In summary, filing the N-400 to becoming a citizen took 5 months.  Good luck.

Contrary to other people’s experiences here, in my case filing the N400 has done nothing to speed up my 751 so far. 
I applied for 751 in Febr 2022. Assigned to LIN. I applied for N400 end of January this year, did my biometrics Feb 6th, and case has been actively being reviewed since. Columbus, OH field office. And no, the delay is not on my FO, as other cases with a different processing center or that came on a different visa are moving. Mine is just stuck. So no, it doesn’t always speed up the 751.

As you will see, YMMV, but in the end, the I751 clock and the N400 clock are not tied together except at the end, there is little downside (possibly needing to get an ADIT stamp) to filing the N400 with an I751 pending.  In my wife's case she filed the N400 after about 13 months of the I751 pending, and we had a combo interview a few months later, and she had her citizenship a few months after that around the same time those that filed the I751 in the same timeframe were getting their 10 yr GCs.

My husband's I-751 was filed in May of 2021, it was still pending when in August of 2022 he filed the N-400 online.  Two weeks ago, he received an interview notice for the N-400, 8 months after filing it, and sent the USCIS field office (Atlanta) a letter requesting a combo interview with the pending I-751.  Ten days later, he received another interview notice for the I-751, same day and time as the N-400 interview.  So, in his case, filing the N-400 which is taking 8-10 months at most field offices, helped with the I-751 which was stagnant for two years.  He's now busy preparing for the combo interview.  Good luck!

The man who interviewed my wife said that there was no way her i-751 would have been in front of him if she hadn’t filed the n-400. I think his direct quote was “you jumped the line.”

N400 will speed up the process since N400 process time is way faster than I-751. However, N400 can not be approve without I-751 approve first, so most of the time we are end up with combo interview. It just a matter of how quick the field office process N-400 and how competent to request I-751 send to the field office for the combo interview.

I think everyone has a different experience. I've had I-751 pending since November 2021, filed N-400 in February this year. My I-751 was transferred to NBC on March 2d and that's the only action taken on that case. How soon you get scheduled for N-400 interview also depends on a local office. My office is giving me 7 more months estimate as of today, so it's definitely not a quick process. I don't regret filing N-400 though because it's my end goal anyway.

Our local office estimate for the N-400 was 9 months when the interview was scheduled.  Those estimates are bogus.

Nobody can tell you if it'll speed up your case or not, as it's very case specific. In my case, it's very possible it would've delayed my i-751 with 10 months if I had filed my N-400, as my i-751 may have been transferred to NBC after filing the N-400. Because of not filing the N-400, my case stayed with the service center it was routed to, so I was approved fairly quick and without an interview. 

It's up to you if you want to file the N-400 now or wait. Whichever way you choose will work fine, but nobody can tell you if it'll speed up your i-751 or not.

I'm hoping for things to go faster but in the end of the day it's very random. Someone else on this forum filed N-400 at my local office back in October and they're still waiting to be scheduled. I also know another person who filed in December and had their interview in April. Go figure

Back when my wife did her N400, the estimated time for the Detroit FO was six months and they hit that almost exactly.
