Back when my wife did her N400, the estimated time for the Detroit FO was six months and they hit that almost exactly.

When I filed mine in Los Angeles the estimated time was 10 months, my case ended up taking slightly over 10 months. The estimation time changed after my interview was scheduled, but the whole process stayed true to the very first estimation. So in my case it was also very accurate.

Ours was crazy..... It was 9 months before the interview was scheduled.  Then, it jumped to 11 months.

In my case it didn't speed up anything. Filed I-751 in Nov 2021, been at MSC/NBC since. Applied for naturalization in Oct 2022, finally got a fingerprints appointment for I-751 and N-400 (two separate ones, mind you), and both cases have been stuck ever since.

Waiting for I-751 for ~20 months, waiting for N-400 for ~7 months. My FO processing time is 8.5 months, but I've seen everyone else get their interview much sooner. People who field after me are already done with it, so kind of losing hope this will get resolved any time soon, and that I'll have to send inquiries etc. in early 2024...

Just giving you a hug fellow Nov 2021 filer. Hopefully, your turn comes soon! I already sent two inquiries on not receiving a 48-months extension and I-751 taking too long. No response whatsoever.

It's really reassuring to know that I'm not the only one. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I know I have nothing to complain about, especially since I got the extension letter, but the uncertainty and indefinite waiting surrounding it all can really wear down on you sometimes.

Your wait time is completely normal, N-400s are taking 8-12 months right now which is pretty fast considering how long I-751s are taking.  I predict that you will receive an N-400 interview notice in the next few months.  When that happens, send a letter to the USCIS field office requesting a combo interview with the pending I-751.

Thank you for this. My only points of reference are this website and the USICS website processing times, both of which indicate I should've already got the interview. Didn't know it's still common for them to take that long. Gonna sit tight for the next few months then and try not to think about it.

Contrary to other people’s experiences here, in my case filing the N400 has done nothing to speed up my 751 so far.
I applied for 751 in Febr 2022. Assigned to LIN. I applied for N400 end of January this year, did my biometrics Feb 6th, and case has been actively being reviewed since. Columbus, OH field office. And no, the delay is not on my FO, as other cases with a different processing center or that came on a different visa are moving. Mine is just stuck. So no, it doesn’t always speed up the 751.

I'm in the same boat, albeit, I applied much more recently. Saw lots of people having their I-751 applications transferred in the immediate days after filing the N-400, so I figured mine would be in a similar situation considering I applied for the 751 26 months ago. Been a month, biometrics were reused, but since then, there has been no movement on either application.

You know it's hard to tell if I-751 getting transferred really does anything for either of the two cases. My case was transferred to NBC 3 weeks after filing N-400 but nothing else happened, it's been just sitting there for over two months now. If it stayed in WAC though it could have better chances to be looked at/approved than at NBC. It's just an unfortunate lottery.

How soon you get scheduled for N-400 interview also depends on a local office.

Not really, or at least not in my case. People filing around the same date as me have already had their interviews, and I am just here waiting.

With ROC moving out toward 35+ months, why would anyone who planned to naturalize wait for the I751 to be completed before submitting the N400?  If naturalization is the ultimate goal, the I751 becomes just an expensive nuisance.

Had our combo N-400/I-751 Interview on 4/21/23. We did not send in a request for combo interview letter with our application like others have suggested. The officer had our entire I-751 case file on the table in front of him and simply stated "your I-751 case has already been looked at twice so I'm not going to waste any more time on it" and approved it on the spot. He then immediately proceeded with the N400 interview.

I-751 approved same day. No new green card would be issued as N-400 was also approved on the same day.

I-751took roughly 18 months to approve but I want to stress that,  outside of receiving the notice of receipt for our I-751 application, there was no movement on it till we submitted the N-400. Our I-751 was mysteriously transferred to another location immediately after we submitted the N-400.....no way that's just a simple coincidence. It obviously moved because we submitted the N-400. So you can interpret that however you want but in my opinion, they will basically sit on your I-751 for an indefinite amount of time until something major prompts them to do otherwise (in this case, submit an N-400).

That's normal, in most cases when you file the N-400 your i-751 gets transferred to NBC so it later can be routed to your local field office together with your N-400 for a combo interview. What you experienced is a combo interview even if the IO didn't go through it with you but had done so prior to your interview.

Sounds exactly like the same thing that happened for my wife when she filed the N400 with her I751 pending.  I think the suggestion of posting a request for a combo interview has more to do with these types of scenarios becoming more and more common and some people not getting a combo interview automatically.  Back when my wife filed her I751 it was right at the beginning of those applications slowing down (my wife filed in Dec 2016 and only received a 12 month extension letter).  She filed the N400 a little more than a year later, and that application went through with lightening speed at the Detroit FO.  Like you, when called for her N400 interview, the IO had the I751 package in front of her and simply reviewed the I751 form briefly before proceeding with the N400 interview.

Quick update on my case. Last Friday, 5 weeks after submitting my N-400, my I-751 case was transferred to the NBC. I know it might take some more time, but it was just so nice to see an update on my ROC case for the first time in 2 years!
