Hello everyone

I have a friend who came  to the USA with a 10 year tourist visa. But he received a letter a while ago stating that he needs to leave the USA in 6 months and then he can come back again. He’s been in the USA for 1 month now.  What can he do to prevent leaving . Is this normal for a tourist visa

Visa validity is not the same as allowed duration of stay.  10-year visa validity does NOT mean a tourist can stay in the US for 10 years.  Those who enter on a tourist visa are allowed to stay typically for 6 months only, sometimes shorter.  Staying beyond the allowed duration would make your friend an illegal in the US and invalidate his tourist visa.

Does he currently have a girlfriend/boyfriend who is a US Citizen?

Also, did he really think that he was allowed to have a 10 year vacation? How did he support himself financially? It is not allowed to work on a tourist visa?

I promise you that USCIS has seen that 'strategy' before.

Your friend is heading towards doing something fraudulent here....
